Shielded only underground!
You must use shielded couplings underground, a rubber only coupling will pull apart with settling. Our contractor for the foundation repair used rubber couplings for our septic main (4 inch PVC) and our sump pump outlet (1.5 inch PVC) about 4 feet from the foundation. Luck for us, the 1.5 inch sump line disconnected first. That made me look into the septic main and see that it was deflected by an inch, but somehow still holding. Had to dig it up an re-do them. It fit over the 1.5 inch sched 40 pvc pipe, I was able to slide it on the pipe first and then slide it to joint after I lined them up. Just what I needed!
