Better Than Wax Toilet Seal

Fluid master has once again invented a winner. The advantage to this product is that it is reusable if you have to pull the toilet again. Uneven floors are a problem setting a toilet but the flexible rubber seal moves with the toilet if it rocks. That is not an excuse for not shiming the toilet with plastic shims if necessary. The kit has an extra shiming ring should the toilet flange be recessed in a tile floor and closet bolts enclosed in the kit.

This ring is advertised as fitting all standard toilets. The fact that it is rubber rather then wax was enticing as the wax ring repairs are always so gross. However, this ring is designed to sit right on the floor and does not seem to have any allowance for the 1/4" rise of the existing flange. As a result of this specification and the fact that the "crunchability" of the product is nowhere near that of a wax ring, the toilet cannot be leveled without 1/4 to 1/2" shims - way to much to cover up with silicone. We even went so far as to trim the outside edge of the ring to provide a fraction more "squeezability" without success. Since the flange is mounted, in this instance, on a concrete slab (no adjustment possible) - we are having difficulty trying to solve this problem. The solution may be using the tried and true wax ring.
