If this is on a dedicated return line the the pump should be on the hot water return line going in to the hot water heater. If this is being used with a comfort system and the comfort valves, then it should be on the hot water side leaving the tank.
The new pump is able to be screwed into the existing base. There is not any details as to the exact design of the two bases and there may be a slight change in the performance if swapping the bases. The new pump should not be installed with the body of the pump pointed up or down. The body should be horizontal.
No, as stated only the models that specify the A in the model number have the Auto functionality. This pump does not have the AutoAdapt feature.
The models that specify the A in the model number (such as model UP10-16 PM A BN5/LC) have the AutoAdapt functionality. So not all of the pumps in this series have this feature, as this is one that does not have the AutoAdapt feature
There is no timer available for this pump model. Instead there is a pump with the AutoAdapt functionality that basically would learn as its used when it is needed to turn on and then the temperature could be controlled through it as well. That would be the Model UP 10-16 PM A BN5/LC which is sku 98420223.
The listed replacement model is actually sku 98420222, as that model has the 1/2" sweat connections like the 96433896 model had. The sku 98420210 can also be a comparable replacement, however it has the 1/2" FNPT connection instead of the 1/2" sweat connection.
