Description

The Azure® Digi-Motor ® from MARS is a high efficiency variable speed direct drive blower motor for a multitude of applications. Azure® is a replacement for both standard PSC and Genteq X-13 motors.

Azure® features an auto sizing learn mode. In start-up learn mode, Azure® runs for approximately 2 minutes measuring the external static pressure of the system application. Azure® then assigns torque values to each of its speed taps self-programming itself to the correct horsepower for the application.

If none of the four speeds provides perfect airflow for the application or if duplicate speeds are desired on 2 or more taps, an optional hand held programmer (MARS No. 08502) can be used. The programmer connects to Azure® and displays the percentage of torque applied to the speed tap being energized. The percentage (motor speed) can then be increased or decreased and permanently set with the programmer. This tool overrides the motor torques established in the auto sizing mode.

Features:
  • Outboard replaceable surge protector
  • Adjustable speeds (with optional MARS No. 08502)
  • 4 speeds plus 625 RPM constant fan mode

Great X-13 replacement for a failed Broadocean motor

Déjà vu. Failed speed taps on a Broadocean X-13. This Azure motor once again saved the day. It does its own static pressure test to calibrate itself. This will work for X-13 and PSC applications, either rotation direction, 120V or 240V. Very adaptable.

Worked perfectly

We were able to set this fan up using installation instructions with motor. Using wires we set fan speed to medium low. There is a lot of flexibility of fan speed built into this motor. I purchased the handheld programmer but never used it. I plan to return this programmer.

So far so good.

We have 3 of these in the field and they are operating well. I recommend having the power programmer on the truck.

Quiet Efficiency

Fantastic drop in replacement with great real world benefits. The old PSC motor in my furnace would draw a bit under 9 amps while running. You can figure in-rush current for such a motor could be anywhere around 40+ when the motor starts from a stop. This sweet PCM motor has the slow start feature, so it slowly ramps up speed negating the massive in-rush draw of the archaic PSC motor. It also draws nearly 40% less for my application at 5.2A while the AC is running. Since this is a variable HP motor, your mileage may vary. This is a smart motor that auto detects how much of its potential oomph is necessary when you first hook it up. This gem also has the option to run in a low speed mode for air circulation purposes. I have an electronic air cleaner in my house so I set the blower to run 30 minutes of every hour whether heat/AC is running or not. Utilizing a relay to run in low speed mode, strictly for air circulation purposes, at 625 RPM this magnificent device draws merely 1 amp! This will be a fairly substantial savings on my electric bill considering 1) there's no in-rush draw 2) it's using 40% less with the AC on and 3) it's using 1/9th the amperage for circulating air. It should pay for itself in relatively short order with such a massive jump in efficiency. Add in the fact it operates more quietly than the PSC motor and you really have a winner on your hands here. With the AC running, I would say there's probably about a 25% reduction in noise coming from my registers. In low speed mode for air circulation it is completely inaudible. Definitely a solid product. Would 100% recommend to anyone on the fence. Hopefully it lasts a good long while!

Excellent PSC motor replacement

Replacing a 17 year old 1/2 HP PSC motor. Plenty of power (note that the smaller 10860 was not strong enough -- autosize did not work and it struggled with the higher static pressure), smooth ramp up, quiet and the low speed continuous mode provides an amazing improvement in overall air quality. Instructions were excellent and the external surge protector addresses a common failure point of ECM motors.

Get the programmer box ahead of time...

Pros: • Easy to replace an existing NEMA 48-sized blower motor with this part. No surprises here. Just clamp it with the "belly band" taking care to avoid covering any ventilation holes. • In-line surge protector can be quickly swapped (or removed entirely) without splicing wires. • Same part can replace PSC motors (where the speed is selected via multiple 110/220VAC inputs) and replace X13 motors (where speed is selected via multiple 24VAC control signals). • Same part can spin in either direction (CW/CCW). • Same part can be used on both 110V and 220V supply. • Same part can replace multiple motor sizes. • Usually no splicing required for installation – uses existing motor connectors. • In X13 mode (not sure about PSC mode) it seems to have no issues with multiple control taps being energized simultaneously. Motor will spin at the highest requested speed. Makes homebrew "staging" a very simple affair. • Can switch control taps on the fly and the motor will faithfully speed up and slow down – I haven't needed to power cycle or let it spin down first. • Tap #1 offers a fixed 625rpm for quiet air circulation when needed. • Optional programming box can "write" any desired torque value (speed) into taps 2-5. The minimum seems to be 12% which ran even slower for me than tap #1's fixed 625rpm. Cons: • The initial auto-sizing process failed miserably in my case. This specific model is intended for 1/2hp to 1hp applications – I used it in a 3.5t AHU to replace a 1/2hp OEM X13 motor. Went through the sizing process six times, trying various tricks to make it detect more or less air resistance during the exercise. The airflow was MUCH too high after every attempt. Had to buy the programmer box. The "learned" torque values ranged from 48 to 75% across the four taps. I needed around 30% for this 3.5t system with a 9x10 wheel and not-great ductwork. I reckon it might've done OK with a 4t or 5t system. • Awkward/messy wiring harness design warrants reconsideration.

Great Replacement

Wow, awesome product. I originally purchased this motor as a replacement for a 17 year old PSC 3/4 hp blower motor in a gas Lennox furnace. Nothing wrong with the old motor, I was just looking to improve the performance of my HVAC system while lowering the utility bills during the summer and winter here in Northeast Ohio. So far I have been very impressed with how quiet and powerful the Azure 10861 motor is. Looking back, I may have been able to get away with the 10860. My system is moving more air than it ever has while only using the lowest three speed taps. So far my overall electric consumption has dropped about 20 to 25% and looking forward to seeing what happens to my AC bill this summer. The Self Programming/Auto Sizing feature did an ok but not a great job. I will be purchasing the Optional Hand Held Programmer (MARS No. 08502) to tweak the system in the near future. I also found that the system as a whole performed much better once I replaced my old builder grade thermostat with a new smart thermostat. Overall Great Product, Highly Recommend!
