Room for improvement
Transformer quality sub-par. I had a situation where there were 3 surge events and this units transformer was the only one that blew out 3 times.
I wish there was a competitor.

Works as it should
Used this to replace my original aquastat. Seems to be working fine. I'll add the schematic I used to wire my two zones except my zone valves use black wires instead of yellow but it is the same.

I ordered this aquastat to replace on that had been in service less than a year, but the transformer failed. I installed the new one and the transformer also didn't work. I filled out the replacement form and Supply House sent the replacement no questions asked. The replacement works just fine. Obviously this is a consistent problem with the equipment from the manufacturer.

The boiler that I was looking at had a runaway temperature occurring. And in which I did the necessary research to discover that it was the aquastat that went bad. Ordered the correct one and now works exactly like it's supposed to.

Third failure in 6 years
Unfortunately my 8184J just failed for the third tim in 6 years. Each time is the same symptom, the circulator fails to power on when heat is called. The first two failures I replaced with new units, suspecting bad solder joints. This time I discovered that the issue was the solder joints, specifically C1. I was able to re-solder C1 and return the unit service.

Not a direct replacement as advertised.
While this product can be configured to work in a number of applications. It is not a direct replacement as advertised. Knowledge beyond that provided in the instructions is required to properly configure the device for your specific application. If you are buying this thinking it will be a plug and play, you may be disappointed.

Aquastat Relay is great!
The Aquastat Relay is great, however, getting it to us was not! The system should not update at 10 PM and say the item will be received the next day. Our first item was lost, I called Customer Service on Friday and was told I had to wait 24-72 hours for the system to update. I called again on Monday when the system was still saying only the label was created for the first item. Mia was amazing, she exemplifies GREAT customer service. She stayed on the line until a solution was made. She made sure another item was shipped and we received that two days later, even though again, at 10 PM the system said we would get it the next day. It would have been much quicker to drive to pick it up than to wait a week with no heat!

Q: I just had my Honeywell Aquastat Relay L8148E replaced with the L8148J. Apparently this is the direct replacement since the L8148E is discontinued (according to the Honeywell web site). The boiler comes with the automatic vent damper. My HVAC guy replaced the Aquastat and connected the wires just like the old one. However the boiler did not work properly. Even when the thermostat did not call for heat the boiler would still turn on. After some trouble shooting, my HVAC guy told me that it appears that the new Relay L8148J must have some internal ground, and the ground (green wire) that goes from the burner (screwed on the burner) to the GDN (Burner) on the Module (black box on the boiler) was causing this problem. When he disconnected the green wire (GDN burner) everything seems to work just fine. Is this true? Do the L8148J have some internal grounding that would cause this problem. The person in Colorado (see above) appears to have the same problem.

Verified Reply- PexSupply StaffThe L8148E is still available with a vent damper plug. If you are experiencing issues with the L8148J that was installed, we recommend replacing it with either the L8148E1257 or the L8148E1265, both which are still available.

Q: Can Aquastat relay L8148J replace Aquastat relay L8148E? Our plumber told the electrician it was OK to take out the L8148E and replace it with the L8148J. They are working on it now and have high over heating and high pressure and trouble shooting. Adjusting the temp indicator does not have any effect, temp just keeps going up super high. A licensed/union plumber and licensed/union electrician. They thought it would be no problem, since they had the aquastat L8148J on hand. I think they need to get the exact model# aquastat that they took out.

Verified Reply- PexSupply StaffThe difference between the units is that the "E" model has an operating range of 180 to 240 degrees and a temperature differential of 15 degrees, while the "J" model has an operating range of 120 to 240 degrees and a temperature differential of 8 degrees. It sounds like some temperature setting may need to be changed.
