Control-R Wi-Fi Module

I couldn't give the review a 5 since the applet on the iphone is so immature and needs significant investment for developing the app. The app won't connect to a SSID that is hidden, so I had to create an open SSID, but it still supported WPA2/3 connection so that was good. I changed that SSID that I created and broadcast to restrict that SSID to only the Control-R's MAC address once it connected. YEP, I am big on WIFI and access security. I believe everyone else's issues have to do with connection to wifi. There instructions could be better, but the device is restricted to 2.4 ghz and must have a strong signal. So if you run a single wifi broadcast point, you will definitely have issues. Also, if you are in a crowded 2.4 ghz zone and your broadcast band is crowded and set to auto switch between bands, these seem to cause problem. I handpick my radio bands and allow everyone else to auto switch around mine. All in all, this works well, I have zero problems and will give it a better review when they improve working with hidden SSID's, easier control over how it connects to wifi and better overall instructions for users. Keep in mind I have 5 bars of wifi signal where the device is located. You can use 18 awg wire and put the Control-R anywhere in your house. Hence directly in line to your wifi Access Point or WIFI router/broadcaster. Now what is important here, if you have a Rinnai RUR199IN, you don't need this device or the MC195. But that means the water heater will run 24 hours a day. With the scheduler, I don't have it recirculating at night when I am sleeping and in the future, post COVID, during the week day when no one is home, saving on energy costs. Also, the app has a vacation mode, which is important to me as during the summer I go to the beach house a lot and can turn off the recirculation mode when I am away from home. Love that feature. it's a tap away. I am a huge DIY, ran my own direct runs for the recirculation on my new home.

Attempted to connect an RWM101 to a 5-year-old RUR98iN, supposedly compatible with almost all Rinnai THWH's 2006 and newer RWM101 connection plug wasn't compatible with RUR98iN controller board and installation instructions are very vague, no help, forced to cut and strip wires and guess at connection polarity. Also unclear whether RWM101 works alongside existing (wall-mounted) THWH controller or replaces it entirely, Rinnai documentation completely ignores this critical point, clearly they want their certified technicians to install upgrades. RWM101 powers up (LED lights) and appears to connect to www.rinnai.com via WiFi/Internet but no way to tell for certain (BLUE/BLUE/GREEN flashing) I'm stuck at this point in the upgrade, too late on a Friday evening to get Rinnai tech support on the phone, no online help. Very discouraging experience, hopefully can reach Rinnai Tech Support and resolve. PS: having Error Code 10, then Error Code 12 issues, RUR98iN unit had dirty combustion fan (bugs, dust) despite proper attic installation and consistent annual service, wish we had air intake filter screen installed originally
