Description
–
Sioux Chief 869 Series backwater valve shall be installed where
necessary in drainage systems. Backwater valve shall be installed
on horizontal drainage lines for reducing damage from sewer backup.
Backwater valve shall have a stepped design to provide adequate fall
to encourage flow. Flapper shall have an elastomer seal and allow
unrestricted unidirectional flow while reducing the straining of effluent.
Designed in accordance with ASME A112.14.1-2003

Works perfectly
I used this to tie into our main stack for a water softener and R.O. system. I removed the float when gluing this to the pipe to prevent any from getting on as a precaution. Tested the line and it's working great for low flow

Worked at First, but Flapper Gasket Failed After Two Months
Worked perfectly at first, but after a couple of months I started having backwater issues again. When I inspected it, there was almost no debris buildup, so clogging was not the issue. The real problem was that the rubber gasket had come off the flapper and become lodged inside the valve, holding the flapper open. I was shocked it had not just been washed away. I tried reinstalling the valve without the gasket, and although that reduced the backwater somewhat, it was obviously not a real fix. The gasket is necessary for the valve to seal properly. Very disappointing failure for something designed to stop exactly this problem.
