Isolation Valves are a necessity when installing a Tankless

I am in the process of installing 2 tankless water heaters. One is for domestic hot water and one is the heat source for our radiant heat system. They are replacing existing tankless units but I am using new isolation valves. For the price, they are cheap insurance. And since it comes with a pressure release valve, even more savings. Just make sure that before you buy new ones, that your tankless unit doesn't already come with them. And if it does, it is probably not a bad idea to have a spare set around. The Takagi set looks well constructed and nicely machined. Great price for a great product.

Factory O-Rings Are Too Thin.

Pros. 1. Feels Like A Quality Product. 2. Large Handles Are Very Nice To Have . There Is A Specific Way of Correctly Tightening Union Connections. Cons. 1. No Matter how Perfect i Lined the Union up before tightening, No matter how perfect i Kept contract with the O-Ring As i Tightened, No matter how Tight i Tightened it, Both hot and cold leaked from the threads. I Had to Apply Teflon Tape and pipe dope to the threads in order to make them not leak. 2. This Valve Is Recommended for Tagaki Tankless heaters. The Orientation Of the PRV If Positioned on the left makes the Drain/Descaling Connection On The Hot Side face the back. Doesn't make sense to me since every tankless brand I've Installed The Hot Outlet Is On The Left. if You choose these, Either search for a Larger O-Ring Or be prepared to do as i Did to the threads so they don't leak.

Supply House is my Go-To!

Just put in a new tankless water heater & due to its likely longevity, wanted the best for its connections. Delivery was flawless & best of all ON-Time!

Love the handles

These are great for tankless heaters. The bigger handles make shutting off the unit much easier

2 Hot water valves that leak

The hot water shut off leaked from the original valve set that I bought. Bought another set for less from another source (because the valves are not sold individually, and my warranty was up before my first descale) and that hot valve also leaked. Had to install additional ball valve to prevent water from the hot pipes coming through the service valve when trying to descale. Go with the more expensive set.

I believe you have to install both valves so you can isolate the unit for service. Contact Takagi America Customer Support for the definitive answer. They are extremely helpful.

John, You have a cold line going to the unit and a hot line leaving the unit, going to the house. J. LaRue Thomas

Q: Hi, what is the thread size on both ends of these valves? Also are both ends male, female, etc.? Thanks.

Both ends of each valve in the set have 3/4" female NPT connections.

The top fits the pipe from the heater, whatever size that is. Didn't have to do anything special for them to fit. I do believe the top part is female, as I think the pipes to/from the heater are male. I suggest you call Takagi (1-800 # on their website) as ours are still wrapped for winter (20s forecast for tonight) and I can't see them. The heater has not tried to freeze (it has the internal heater) but the pipes to and from, and the isolation valves, most definitely will freeze. Good luck. J. Thomas

Q: What size and type are the outlets? I'm guessing 3/4" FPT from the image. Is that correct?

Yes, they are 3/4" FNPT.

Q: Can these be installed with a piece of pipe between the valve and the water heater? i.e. I want to have these valves about 3 feet below the bottom of the water heater, for ease of access.
