Quick swap out for older TK JR unit with control panel!

This unit replaced a 2004 model TK JR in a garage apartment. This is the 1st issue I have had with any of the 3 Takagi water heaters in 3 rental houses. I do all my own repairs if possible so it was far cheaper and faster to replace whole unit than calling repair service or trying to trouble shoot it more than a hour or two. The older unit was working intermittently and I believe that it was a control board issue (after ruling out other issues). I plan on replacing the control board and using the older unit as a spare to swap out units in a hurry. Did not have time to special order the control board had whole unit shipped (in 2 days) and swapped it out myself in less than hour. New unit fan is a little quieter than old unit but neither were loud. New unit has built in control panel that makes changing temp easy. This is great for safety with renters. Love these units so far, very efficient for the size. I believe the old unit took a surge in power. All my other units are on a small battery ups device that is a surge suppressor and battery back up. They have had no issues. Highly recommend a surge or battery back up to protect sensitive unit.

Terrible

I have had the authorized service tech out at least 3 times, changed out the computer board, changed out the flow sensor, changed out the gas line, but the water keeps going cold on me in the shower. Then, they told me that my water lines are crossed somewhere, so I paid a plumber to come look and was told they are exactly how they should be. When I mix the cold water into hot for a comfortable shower, the unit shuts off. If the shower runs hot (which is too hot for me), the water stays hot. Takagi is telling me there is nothing wrong with the unit and that it has somethng to do with the warm ground water coming in. I live in a warm climate, but it isn't as hot as Phoenix. I am soooooo frustrated!

I would buy this product again - in fact, I did!

Old one was 18+ years old. House was hit by lightning or it would still be working. New one works the same but controls are better. Good product for HWH; works well to supply heat to radiant system through heat exchanger as well

It's a perfect match for my rental unit.

My rental house had a Aquastar tankless water heater that was 22 years old and the core finally wore out. After doing some research this Takagi unit had the best warranty and features that I needed.Befor the tariffs it was a great price to boot.

Product was great quality

I bought this tankless heater to replace one that froze and broke in the cold weather. This new unit is supposed to be freeze protected so I expect to avoid this problem in the future. The heater was delivered on fast and I installed it no problem. It is working away making continuous hot water.

ASK A QUESTION

Q: Hi - we are looking to replace a jr that we installed almost 15 years ago in our radiant floor system. While the btu of this model is the same we can't tell if the temp is the same, the JR goes up above 158 (the temp suggested to run our system on). Any help much appreciated!

Hi Yolanda, thanks for writing in. The 110U is considered the suggested alternative for the T-KJr2, however it only goes up to 140 degrees F. The TK-510U is capable of going up to 160 degrees with the temperature controller if you would like to check that unit out: https://www.supplyhouse.com/Takagi-TK-510U-I-Series-200-Ultra-Low-NOx-Non-Condensing-Indoor-Tankless-Water-Heater-10-GPM-NG-LP

Q: I have a propane Takagi Tk-Jr (discontinued) and this one is the recommended replacement (Series 200 Ultra Low-NOx Non-Condensing Indoor Tankless Water Heater (6.6 GPM, NG/LP)). Can I reuse all the existing venting pipes or will I need to replace them?

Hi Thai, thanks for writing in. This should be vented with 4" category III stainless steel, so as long as that is what you are currently using, it will work with this unit as well.

Q: Is this model appropriate in a cold climate like Vermont ?

Asked by Blake 3 years ago

Hi Blake. In any areas subject to freezing temperatures, the manufacturer highly recommends an indoor installation with an indoor model such as this one. In such an installation, freezing issues can occur if cold air enters through the venting into the heat exchanger, whether by negative pressures within the installation location or by strong outside winds. The manufacturer also highly recommends the use of a backflow preventer (sold separately) to minimize the amount of cold air entering through the exhaust venting when the water heater is off. The unit is also equipped with heating blocks to protect it against damages associated with freezing, called the Freeze Protection System. Keep in mind, however, for the Freeze Protection System to work, there must remain power to the unit.

Q: Do I need a condensate collector?

This is a Non-Condensing unit so a condensate collector is not mandated by install however, any condensation that may build up within the venting system would best be drained from a condensate port than going back into the unit and damaging the heat exchanger so our suggestion would be yes.

Q: Does the Takagi 200 series come with the vent pipes, elbows and parts for a easy instalation

No, none of the Tankless Water Heaters will come with the venting pipe because venting depends on local code, and thus it would be different customer to customer
