Great water heater and fast shipping!
PexSupply comes through again with a super price on a great product. This water heater is fast, and pretty efficient on propane usage as well. The new style electronic control (not the old style as shown in the picture..PexSupply, you need to update the picture) works very well with tight regulation of water temperature.
The heater arrived fast and was well strapped down on the pallet. Minor quibble was that the box it comes in was very thin and flimsy (this is AO Smith's issue, not one with PexSupply). It did arrive with no damage other than a minor rub off of some paint on one side.
Timew will tell about it's longevity, but the AO Smith brand is a very good one so I have good expectations for this one.

I purchased two new GCV 40301 water heaters and they make clinking sounds which are very irritating. A O Smith doesn't care that their new water heaters make noise...... don't buy

Great product...great value.
It's probably a bit premature to rate this 5 stars as it's been installed for one week. From the perspective of an install it's been great....easy to sweat the pipes in place, attach the gas line, and reattach the vent. Took a couple of hours. The unit fired right up after being filled with the electronic control making it easy. I considered spending thousands on a tankless but finally figured w the downside of the maintenance and possible repair for minimal savings that you couldn't beat the low price and longevity of a hot water heater. Simple often equals good! Hope this helps someone in their decision making.

Leaking before 4 years old
We have to replace unit before it was 4 years old. It started leaking at the top with water running down over the side. No cost for the replacement heater but well over $600 for the install. Also per the manual warranty on replacement unit only for balance of original unit. Unit being replaced had replaced a unit that lasted over 10 years.

Great product, simple to install
The freight company came on time, the condition of the product was superior, and it was easy to replace the existing water heater.
User manual is perfect. Now, if it lasts the 27 years that the last one was in place. Will update the post then!

This is a noisy water heater
I purchased two new GCV 40301 water heaters and they make clinking sounds which are very irritating. A O Smith doesn't care that their new water heaters make noise...... don't buy

I purchased this water heater to replace a 20+ year old electric. It arrived in good shape (with free shipping and no tax)and was delivered as promised. I like the "no match" lighting system and the flashing light to indicate it is working properly. I used the "short" model to take advantage of the existing vent hole in my chimney. You never really think about a water heater until it dosen't work. I installed this one with no problems and haven't thought about it since. I take that as a GOOD sign.

Q: I have a 40-gal. gas A.O. Smith water heater. It was installed in January, 1998. My question is Does it have a glass protective bottom to prevent it from leaking or the bottom rusting out. I have just installed wood flooring near it, and would not want to have to replace it due to water damage. Thank you. It is Serial #GM97-3914639-242, Model #FSG 40-242.
