    Just what we needed

First word about the supplyhouse.com I purchased the water heater online with ease. Delivery was fast and right to my door and the price was the best that I was able to find. I installed the water heater on the day that it arrived without issue I was replacing a 25 year old A O Smith PowerShot water heater. This unit stands about 2 inches taller than the powershot, however the gas line enters at the same height which made installation fairly simple. The old powershot had so much scale buildup that it was no long getting the water hot enough. And I figured rather than mess around with a 25 year old water heater I may as well replace it. The new unit works great it's nice to have hot water again vs just warm water.

I possibly would not buy AO Smith GPVT-50 again...

OK. SupplyHouse was great. Easy to install. The GPVT-50 has a more powerful fan than my previous GE unit & needed the plastic plate termination to provide some exhaust back pressure as my 3" pvc exhaust equivalent length is below 50'. This unit is much quieter than my previous gas powervent water heater. I am having a hard time getting the thermostat set to operate at the temperature I would like it to (or possibly it is not functioning properly?). I would like a "faucet full hot" temperature of about ~120 degF, good for the dishwasher and not so hot that I can't keep my hands immersed in order to wash hands or pots & pans. At this time, the GPVT-50 tends to run either "scalding", i.e., I have to pull my hands out (~130+ degF), or too low and does not reignite when I wish it would (I know by the screams of "where is the hot water?"). The initial recommended "HOT" thermostat setting was nominally to be about 120 degF but instead yielded 140 degF. Way too hot, burns. The "LOW" setting (nominally 110 degF) is giving the about 130 degF...still too hot. I am trying to get operation just slightly below this, but the knob control is analog and appears to be sensitive (assuming thermostat is working properly). There is one more unmarked dot below the LOW set mark, and then there is the VACation mark which is meant to prevent freezing and is nominally a 70 degF set point. These marks are equally angularly spaced, but not equally spaced by degreesF (delta 40 degF from LOW to VAC). BTW, the manual indicates that a number of short(?) hot water demands can cause the water temperature to go up as much as 20 degF ABOVE your high temp set point (page 41). Also, contact with AO Smith informs me that the difference between the high set temp and the the low reignition temp can also be 20 degF. So how do you set this monster, or determine if it is operating properly? IDK. May have to plumb in a cold water mixing valve...which wastes energy! Needs a digital thermostat!

Could have been An Awesome Experience, But….

The water heater itself arrived with one good sized scratch, no big deal. The Service Department, Great. The delivery service they use, Sucked. My water heater sat at the Shipping Company Dock for EIGHT DAYS! I went with this company because the reviews said fast or earlier than expected delivery. Even after I contacted them directly, they still forgot to ship my water heater to me on the day promised. Whole day wasted waiting. If you are counting on fast shipping, Don't.

This was a warranty replacement AO Smith gas water heater.

Tank on first unit started leaking. Supply House was great about getting it replaced under warranty! Have mixed feelings about the quality of the product. Should have lasted longer than it did. Supply House was great.

I would buy from them again.

Supply House was excellent to deal with. They had the hot water heater I needed in stock, and delivered it right to my garage door. Much better service and easier than the time I spent going to different home improvement centers looking for what I needed.

    These folks did great

The water heaters arrived right when they said they would. The trucking company was right on as well. Price was the primary reason for my purchase. They beat the local suppliers by at least $400.00.

Great Product and Great service from SupplyHouse.com!

Our AO Smith GPVT-50-LP ProLine XE Water heater was recently installed and so far it's great! It replaced a newer heat pump water heater that proved to be very problematic. At any rate the new AO Smith gas water heater delivers all the hot water we need very quickly, is quieter than the heat pump water heater and I'm sure will be more reliable and consume less energy. Also the ordering process, shipping and delivery from SupplyHouse.com was very impressive. I definitely recommend the AO Smith water heater AND SupplyHouse.com! Thanks!

    Yes, would buy again.

A little bigger in diameter than my old 50 gal hot water heater, but we got it to fit, but it was tight. Unfortunately, the winter storm over the holidays delayed delivery by 6 days.

This unit requires 50 cubic feet of volume per 1000 btu input capacity, so a space of 2500 cubic feet is required. If installing in a smaller space, then fresh air inlets will be required. For more information on the venting requirements please see pg 17 here: http://www.supplyhouse.com/AO-Smith-GPVT-50-LP-50-Gallon-50000-BTU-ProMax-Power-Vent-Residential-Gas-Water-Heater-LP-Gas

Q: Would it be appropriate to use the Side Loop return as the return point for a recirculation system instead of tee-ing into either the cold supply or the drain?

The appropriate way to install a recirculation loop system would be using the side taps on the tank. The side recirculation loop connections may not be used as the primary water inlet and outlet connections.
