Well made

I used these valves to replace ones on our vintage radiators. I was able to use them without replacing the stem into the radiator. Am glad the flange from the old stem is the same as this one so it saved a lot of work.

Great for old cast iron hydronic radiators

I replaced likely original 110 year old radiator valves that had long ago frozen open. Having completed their first heating season, these valves have worked great and provided reasonable temperature stability. If your pipes rise through the floor, I recommend using the side mount version if you have the clearances to thread them onto the riser. They will provide more reliable temperature response; otherwise you will need to install a right angle adapter or a valve head with a remote sensor. I installed some of each kind of valve, and this valve noticeably closed early relative to their side mount counterparts.

No problems so far

Just looks like a good valve that the heating people installed. Got it for use with thermostatic radiator valves. Much better than the decades old valve it replaced.

Q: My technician recommended "quick release" valves for a couple of my vintage steam radiators, which are not warming up. Would this product be it? Thanks

Hi Chris. Yes it would be quick release, and you can use actuator SKU: 013G8250 along with the valve - https://www.supplyhouse.com/Danfoss-013G8019-3-4-Angle-Thermostatic-Radiator-Valve

Q: Can this valve be used without the direct mount operator to allow manual control of water flow rate to 5 rads connected in parallel? I'm looking for a tidy, manual valve for flow balancing to equalize heat output along the installation. Is this it? What might be better? Thank you.

Yes, they work great. I have the same setup. If you might later add any RA2000 thermostats, then you should use the side mount valve (013G8023), because the stats need to be mounted vertically with the sensor away from the radiator. The stats are great for keeping one room cooler than the rest.

Hooked up that way, all of the radiators will be fed at the same time. This valve works best when you have a valve for each radiator. That way, only the exchanger that's calling for heat will open.

Not enough info. GPM, Delta T and BTU's required for that answer. I would doubt a 1" thermostaic valve would handle more than 2 or 3 20K rads with a typical residential pump on a whole house system

Q: Does this valve offer any option for adjusting water flow independently of room temperature, allowing heat output to be balanced with relation to nearby radiators? In other words, does this valve also act as a balancing valve? Thanks!

That is precisely what that valve is designed to do.... It will need a thermostatic head to go w/ it. kpc

Steve- Flow to the radiator is based on the temperature sensor that is placed on the valve; so flow is not regulated independently of room temperature. You can reduce the temperature of one radiator compared to another by adjusting the sensor to different settings if need be. I think they work extremely well in my house with hot water radiators. I am a residential customer, not a plumber, but this is how I think it works. The TRV has direct control over only the radiator to which it is fitted. There should be an indirect benefit to other units. Since the TRV closes down when room temp reaches the preset level, more heat is then made available to other radiators on the same circuit. However, since apartment building heating circuits are usually on vertical runs, any balancing effect is most likely to benefit rooms above and below. We have been very happy with the comfort provided us by our Danfoss TRVs. We have been urging our coop to install them throughout the 90 units in our building because we believe such an investment, if done building wide, will be paid back in 2-3 years due to increased energy efficiency.

Q: Is it possible to provide a maximum set point that can be set by landlord key for this valve or any similar product? Idea is to have max set point to prevent tenants from cranking up the heat and opening windows....I know they make electronic thermostats like this, but are there any options for TRVs?

The operators for the valve come with pins to lock in ranges and settings.

Yes, you can use this item. You will also need the operator (SKU: 013G8250).

Q: Does this require the addition of the "Direct Mount Operator" knob to be a complete thermostat? If so, does this replace the gray knob I see in the picture, or does it fit over it somehow?

Yes, a direct mount operator is needed for installation. The gray cap pictured with the valve is only the protective cap. Click the following link to view the direct mount operator: http://www.pexsupply.com/Danfoss-013G8250-Direct-Mount-Operator-5558000-p
