Description

The wet switch flood detector is a solid state control designed to help prevent flooding, damage to carpets, walls, furniture, ceilings, etc. It now has a built-in test and reset button for easier installation. It turns the system off when moisture due to condensate or drain leaks is detected. One or two drops will cause Wet Switch to turn off a unit, alerting a serviceman to a moisture problem. A lit LED indicates the Wet Switch is activated and has turned the unit off. Re-set simply by drying the absorbent pad with a paper towel and pressing the reset switch. Connects to 24 VAC. More than one unit may be connected to a system. 2 amp contact rating. Simple 5 wire installation.

The Wet Switch is placed into the secondary drain pan - a normally dry pan. If the primary drain pan fails, condensate water will overflow into the secondary drain pan. Upon sensing moisture, the Wet Switch will turn the system off (typically the cause of the condensing water) to help prevent damage to carpets, walls, woodwork, ceilings, and other property.

The Wet Switch is designed to interrupt the operation of cooling systems. However, it is a water activated switch and can be used in a variety of other applications.

Features:
  • Hydrophilic Pad
A high tech polymeric fiber quickly draws water into the sensor array using proven capillary technology.
  • Integral Feet
Integral feet raise the hydrophilic pad and sensor array off the drain pan slightly to prevent nuisance tripping and pan corrosion (metal pans only) from interfering with the sensor array.
  • Stainless Steel Sensor Array
A high tech array of multiple stainless steel sensors detects even a minimal amount of water drawn into the hydrophilic pad.
  • Compact Package
This technology is packed into a 3-5/8" diameter by 1-1/4" high cylinder. Furnished complete with 5-conductor 22AWG stranded cable, 6' long.
  • Solid State Electronics
Proven electronics prevent mechanical failure in an aggressive operating environment.
  • Double Throw Relay
Allows for wiring to interrupt system and to sound an alarm (by others) when moisture is detected.
  • Multiple Unit Connectivity
Multiple unit connectivity allows for multiple Wet Switches to be connected in series to adequately cover large drain pan areas.
  • Standard 24VAC control
  • Epoxy Encapsulated Electronics

I would buy this product again.

This device is designed to protect against flooding due to undrained condensation from the A/C air handler in the attic. It failed (safe) after many years. The replacement device arrived on time and worked properly.

Looks good & easy to install

I got this as a backup water cutoff in the AC pan. The primary is a SS2, I like it because it only takes a little water to activate it instead of having 3/4" of water or so. I used Wago connectors.

Go to condensate switch

While these are a little more pricey than a float switch, they are the best for units above occupied space as they do not require more than just a little moisture to trigger. This means that you do not already have an issue when you discover a condensate overflow. Priceless for me to not have the worry of damaged ceilings.

Q: Can this switch be used to cut my well switch off in case of a leak and how can it be hooked up to well switch. If it can I have a use for several.

Yes, you have to run your well through a 240 primary 24 volt secondary relay switch with a 24 volt transformer powering the wet switch.

Yes, you can do this. The specific wiring will depend on your well pump type, and how your well system is wired. You need a 24V power supply, run through the wet switch. That 24V current will trip a relay or contactor which switches your well circuit off. You want to talk to an HVAC tech or electrician to specify the contactor to your well control, and place them in the proper enclosure.

Yes, usually that is the case. sometimes if they are installed directly in a metal pan that will also trip them, put a small piece of foam under the leak detector.

Q: The Wet Switch detected water in the drain pain and I have removed it from the water and tried to dry the switch offand reset it to continue to trouble shoot the HVAC system. However the Wet Switch is not resetting. Is there a way to force a reset even though the switch is still damp?

You can use this switch in a sump pump pan. It could be exposed to significant amounts of water if the pump fails.

According to the manufacturer, it can. You will need to use the white wire instead of the orange wire.

Q: Is there a way to bypass the reset switch and make it an auto reset? I am using the switch to bring on an exhaust fan when there is moisture in the room and then shut the fan off when it is dry, so I need the switch to be ab automatic reset. If not do have have a wet switch to fit this application?

Q: HVAC system is running fine but I noticed neither the green nor the red light is lit. Does it mean the unit should be replaced?

The red light (LED) on wet switch will light if control is tripped by the presence of water, and remain lit even after water has dried up. The green light is to show power is coming to the unit. If both are off you may need to replace the unit. First you can confirm that the unit is wired correctly.
