The WP3-2-16-12 adapter measures 1-3/8" in total length.
We do not carry any copper fittings that have garden hose thread. We would recommend using a garden hose x NPT threaded adapter to connect to a fitting like this one. Also not that this particular fitting, like all FTG fittings, goes inside of a copper pipe adapter (not over copper pipe).
This adapter fits inside of a 1" copper fitting. A 1" copper fitting fits over Type L, K, and M copper (which all have the same outside diameters.
Street fittings 1" fit inside another 1" fitting, 1" fittings work with L,K, or M pipe
The OD of the different type 1" Cu pipe is always 1.23" as you know. A street fitting diameter (OD) is made the same as the pipe, so that it will fit correctly into the female socket of a normal fitting. The ID is never the seat for a fitting, thus it is irrelevant as to fittings working together. If you join a 1" street fitting to 1" Cu pipe (any type), you will need a coupling, which will go around/over both the pipe and the street fitting. The 1" Copper x Female Adapter *SKU:*WP3-16 will fit on 1: Cu pipe (any type) without a coupling.
Answer: A “FTG” adapter won’t go into any pipe L, K or M. It only goes into the female part of fitting, like into an elbow. FYI type L, K and M are all OD controlled -- the outside diameters are equal so will work with any fitting. The wall thickness increases from M to L to K, so the ID gets smaller.
The Adapter can be used with L,K,M copper, the outside diameter of all of them is the same. This adapter will not fit inside the pipe it has the same outside diameter as the pipe, so you can put another fitting right on it. Thanks
This fitting is designed to fit into another fittting, not the actual tubbing. A street fitting will fit into a regular copper fitting.
This adapter is made to fit inside of a normal fitting boss. It is the same exterior diameter as the nominal pipe diameter. The exterior diameter of the copper pipe is the same regardless of type. It is only the interior pipe diameter that changes. This fitting will neither fit the inside or the outside of the pipe. It is intended to fit inside a fitting. If you want to attach it directly to the end of a pipe, use a normal 1" x Female adapter, not a street/ftg adapter.
Tubing is sized by outside diameter. All three types will have the same o.d. The i.d. and wall thickness will very. So, for example, the o.d. of 1/2" tubing will be the same for all types.
That adaptor is made to go into other 1" copper adapters .. it will not fit on or over the pipe.
FTG means it will go into a fitting directly. It is not meant to be attached to pipe at the FTG end. All classes of pipe will go into a 'fitting'. The only way to directly attach two fittings together is to have one (end) be a FTG, otherwise you would need a short piece of pipe to connect the two 'fittings' So basically what a FTG is useful for is when you can't find a Tee or elbow or connector that needs to be adapted to something else other than what you can find in a catalog. Saves some space and one solder joint.
