Description

Note: This item does not come with a harness. Harness can be purchased here: GVD-UWK, 8' Harness w/ Conduit (Universal)

The 46486901 Field Vent Damper works automatically to allow natural draft during appliance operation while preventing residual appliance heat and conditioned air from escaping during off cycles. It also prevents the infiltration of cold air during down drafts.

Safety Features

  • Dual safety switches allow the burner to fire only when the damper is in the open position. This unit will not interfere with existing appliance safety controls, when properly installed.

Operational Features

  • Operates with all 24 VAC, 60hz intermittent ignition and standing pilot ignition systems.
  • Stainless steel construction provides superior corrosion resistance.
  • Damper operation: power opens in 15 seconds, power closes in 15 seconds. Power is off at damper motor when it is at rest.
  • Hold open switch allows damper to be placed in an open position and taken out of service to assist with trouble shooting appliance problems.
  • Keyed wiring harness connector plug installs only one way, preventing incorrect wiring connection.

Dimensions

  • Pipe Size: 4"
  • Length: 6-1/16"
  • Height: 8-7/8"
  • Clearance: 15/16"
  • Exposed Pipe: 4-13/16"

How the GVD Works

  • The 46486901 Field Vent Damper is installed in the vent pipe, after the draft hood, or barometric. During off cycles, it remains closed, preventing air flow through the vent. When there is a call for heat, the motor is energized, rotating the damper 90 degrees to an open position. Opening and closing takes approximately 15 seconds. When the damper is fully open, the burner is allowed to fire and flue gases pass freely through the vent. When the thermostat is satisfied, the burner stops, and the damper automatically closes. For service and trouble shooting, the damper can be locked in the open position.

Electrical Specifications

  • Minimum wiring requirements: 24 VAC - 18 gauge - 105 degrees C
  • Power requirements: 3 watts at 24 VAC, 60 Hz, when opening or closing

Hope this new motor last longer than the past ones

My damper would only stay open with the Hold Open button. When placing the button on, Automatic Operation, my motor could close the old damper, but could not open the damper. I would have to take the motor off and turn the damper open by hand and then reinstall the motor and put the button on Hold Open. As a safety feature, my boiler will not fire up unless the damper is open. So with the damper closed and my old motor not able to open the old damper I did not have any heat. Boiler would not fire up. Once I received the new motor and new damper. I took the old motor off the old damper and compared the manual force to open and close the new damper to the old damper. I realized the force for both was the same. I then decided to just install the new motor on my old damper and everything is working great. I have kept the new damper just in case someday I do need a new damper. I have been operating the damper with the Hold Open button for years, since these motors do not seem to last that long and are quite expensive. Hope this once last many years or I am going back to operating the system with the button on, Hold Open. By ordering the new motor and damper I was able to have a good comparison of the force required to open the damper.

Lasted barely a month, DO NOT BUY

I knew there was a reason I was putting off this review. I bought this product in addition to a new control box and the damper failed within one month. Now the damper just turns and turns causing the boiler to not initiate the burn sequence. Of course it's the middle of winter and 11pm when I come home to a cold house and find this frustrating situation. I will not be buying a new one, but will do a forced bypass of this worthless damper system.

I would purchase this again

Product was as described and worked fine. Harness needs to be purchased separately. I didn't know that and had to purchase it separately again

I would buy from Supply House again!

Worked perfectly! Needed two new ones for a double boiler retrofit. These fit the bill! Why the 4 star rating? Could have had a quicker shipping option, for a reasonable price, but luckily, there was adequate time to allow for the free shipping timeline.

Q: how to test this damper

You would put a 24-volt power on the brown wire and the common on the black wire. Then you would put 24 volts on the orange wire (this would cause the motor to drive open). After the damper fully opens, remove the 24 volts from the orange wire and the damper should drive close.
