Description

COMFORT 10-16 TA BU/LC is high-efficiency and low energy consumption domestic hot water circulator with lead free brass housing. It is built with an ECM (Electronically Commutated Motor) for maximum performance. The pump Provides instant hot water to homeowners and reduces water waste. Typical applications are water heater storage tank or water heater systems with a dedicated return line in one- or two-family homes. To meet your homeowners needs there are three automatic control modes. These are AUTOADAPT,designed for energy-conscious households with irregular daily hot water usage, temperature control, and continuous operation mode used to ensure temperature is constantly maintained in the system. When the temperature control mode is enabled, the pump monitors the water temperature and automatically adjusts its ON/OFF settings according to the highest temperature detected in the system. This ensures that the pump operates efficiently based on these adjusted ON/OFF temperatures.

Features:
  • Leans hot water consumption patterns and adjusts operation time accordingly
  • Reduces water heater energy consumption by saving up to 67% compared to a continuously running pump
  • Designed for unlimited water hardness and robust against limescale
  • Multiple installation positions, even vertical with the pump head pointing downwards
  • Dry-running protection to prevent failure if system runs out of water
  • Built-in and external temperature sensor
  • Isolation valve and check valve integrated
  • Insulation shell included
  • Double insulated pump with line cord allows for quick installation without the need for a ground wire

Good service; Easy Replacement; Lousy Manual/Instructions

Purchased this to replace a discontinued timer model, which froze up. This was a recommended replacement model and no one in town had one in stock and figured if I had to order one, I would look for a better price and order it myself. SupplyHouse.com provided very good customer service and responded to email questions; phone purchase and shipping was quick. The only complaints I have are with Grundfos. They picture book instructions are terrible and left me guessing on the placement of the temperature sensor. After a lot of looking around, I was able to find a written manual online. Secondly, mind had the Union connection, which was very easy to change out. The unit does not come with replacement washers and I could not find them in town. Told they had to be ordered from Grundfos...ridiculous, or purchase new connections that come with them (not at $30 plus, just to get washers). Luckily, my 11 year old ones were able to be reused.

Well Nade But Has Flaws

This is a very nice pump mechanically - excellent fit and finish, quiet, energy efficient, and in theory presents a world of options. However there are some flaws in the programming software: - AUTO mode -> I have not used this extensively but I've read the white paper and it basically builds up a schedule of events. This probably works pretty well if you dont WFH and leave/return/shower etc at regular hours. Otherwise it's just not smart enough and it'll just run 24/7 or not when it needs to. They state this in the literature, so that's not a knock as much as it is something you should be aware of. - Temperature Mode -> Herein lies the issue. In theory all this needs to do is learn via the external sensor the hottest temperature your hot water gets to, and then compare that to the sensor in the housing, and keep it in a range. It will run for 15 mins initially to learn that temp. However, overnight it seems to gradually heat to a lower and lower range so that come morning the water in the loop is tepid at best. The cycles also seem to be extremely short - so short that I doubt it is heating the entire loop and I think it's likely not even heating the brass nipple under the external sensor to actual discharge temperature. The flaw here is whatever hysteresis algorithm they use should not be averaging down within 24 hours, nobody is changing their hot water temperature that often - and they should be cycling the pump long enough to ensure that whatever their external sensor is mounted to heat soaks. It does neither. I solved the TEMP mode issue by putting the pump on a Eve smart plug and setting it to power cycle every morning before we get up for 1 minute/on-off. When the pump first turns on it runs for 15 minutes to establish a baseline, so it resets whatever unfortunate adjustments the pump made overnight. You could also just place it into 24/7 mode and DIY the timing. Overall it's a mixed bag and the cheaper models (backordered) should be considered.

Great Product and Service

Our Grundfos hot water recirculation pump was damaged by a lightning strike (new one now plugged into a surge suppressor). The model we had was discontinued. The replacement is configured to adapt to many different plumbing configurations and, although the website lists the various adapters, I neglected to order any. After the new pump arrived, I called Supply House and they helped me order the correct adapter kit for my installation and shipped them out immediately. Thank you. Enjoying almost instant hot water again!

Great product

Only problem i have with his product is auto-adapt is not always accurate. It takes 2 weeks for it to learn your pattern usuage while adjusting. It caught all usage except during lunchtime. When I called they recommended to unplug and allow it to restart auto-adapt.

Perfect Replacement

Had to replace my original Grunfoss recirc pump after 12 years. This was a simple task as all the unions were still intact. Only issue was the temp sensor. Placing it on the hot water tank outflow kept pump shut off since it sensed hot water. So I just switched the pump to continuous mode and it works fine.

Would have been five stars but there is a slight reservation

We're using this pump in a new home for a hot water recirculation application. During my previous research prior to buying the pump I read a detailed review by one customer about how poorly the temperature function of this pump performs. Has to do with the algorithms they use in the software. It gradually reduces the temperature in which it recirculates. To get around this you have to run it in learning mode continuously and the way to do that is to either put a smart plug on it to cycle it on and off daily. I went the simple route and put a simple electromechanical timer on it which does the same thing and costs less. I turn it off for 6 hours during the night and on the rest of the time. We Incorporated it with a Stiebel Eltron 80 gallon heat pump water heater. There are special requirements to take into consideration when running a recirculation loop with that water heater. The return line has to go into the temperature and pressure valve inlet and the pump cannot be run continuously or will void the warranty. That would have given it five stars because grundfos pumps are such good quality and so efficient (this pump uses only 6 Watts, so the cost of operation is minimal. It's also very quiet.
