The Honeywell AM-1 series accurately adjusts, maintains and limits the hot water temperature to a desired setting selected by the user. In domestic water applications it offers scalding protection and bacteria growth control. Spotty Quality Control on Union Kit

Installation easy. However, out of the 100 or so threaded fittings in the system I just put in, all 3 of the female threads on the unions leaked/ blew out the PTFE paste. Being an engineer, I used calipers on the minor diameter of the threads, and they were .015 larger than spec for NPT. In other words, they may have cut the threads with a worn tap. I finally got them to seal with 4 wraps of thread tape AND Rectorseal paste. Otherwise, the valve works fine I would recommend, but beware ---

Ditto Charlie's "Good for a year or two" review

I'm using this valve in a closed hydronic heating system with treated water (Central Boiler's "Inhibitor Plus" 1650XL). First valve lasted from October, 2010 to sometime during the 2013-14 heating season. Second valve lasted until this fall (November, 2016) when I discovered the same problem - right at the mixing zone outlet area where the bronze casting meets the Teflon coating, the bronze appears to be eroded away so that hot water leaks past the seat, leaving the mix temp way too high. Unfortunately my setup is tight and changing to a different model/manufacturer would be problematic. Great when it's working...

Great mixing valve for the money

These are very reliable, even on well water. Have had very few failures of this brand over the last 20 years. I use these when I replace other brands even if I have to cut pipe. It's worth it to make sure it does not "Boomerang" on me!

Works as designed.

It works well, solid construction! Though the physical size is just a few milimeters short of the older models, you may not be able to do a quick swap with an older unit.

Effective

It was easy to install, aside from re-doing the pipes to connect them. More importantly, it substantially increased the amount of hot water. Before using the device, from the 50 gallon water heater, it would last one full shower and half of another one. Using the device, it increased the amount of hot water to full three showers. Amazing results.

Good product and Great Service.

I ordered an expansion tank & a mixing valve kit, but I end returning the mixing valve and replacing it with just the missing valve. I Received the merchandise in no time, better than what I expect. When I called to request an MRA for the mixing valve kit, I was taking care immediately. They emailed me the shipping label (I paid for the return) when I was still on the phone with customers service, and placing the order for a just the mixing valve. EXCELLENT SERVICE!

Good for a year or two

I do not have hard or problem water, and yet I seem to replace these valves every two years. It is easy to replace, but who needs to be dropping a hundred bucks on a mixing valve every other year.

Honeywell does not offer the adjustment knob as a replacement part at this time.

Q: I read some reviews on Amazon suggesting that this or a similar product reduces the maximum temperature to under 120 degrees, making it unsuitable for supplying a dishwasher. I want my water at least 130 degrees, if not higher. Does anyone know if this valve will really allow higher temperatures?

This valve can be set up to 140°F. See Page 2 of the Installation Instructions ( http://s3.pexsupply.com/manuals/1299090484970/49427_PROD_FILE.pdf ) for details on how to adjust the temperature setting. The manufacturer does not recommend going above 120°F because water hotter than that can cause serious injuries.

I can answer my own question now. This valve comes in two heat ranges: "Standard" and "C". The instructions state: AM-1 “C” Series models with the temperature range, 70°F–120°F (21°C–49°C) and "Standard" models with temperature range 70°F–145°F (21°C–63°C. If you get the "C" series you had better plumb your dishwasher separately, as 120 degree water coming out of the valve is not very desirable for a dishwasher.
