Intermittent Pilot Control Conversion Kit, Y8610U4001

I had a standing pilot light on my boiler, which kept going out. I went through a couple of thermcouples and then decided to make the change and convert it to an electric ignition. The gas valve I had prior was the Honeywell VR8200C3005, now this gas valve had 3 female quick quick connect on it, but only two were used (the two bottom ones) TH and TR (Th is for thermostat) and (TR is for Transformer). The TR wire went from the gas valve to the transformer (in new setup to location letter C on transformer) and the TH went to another wire shared with the two safety switches. In the new setup the old TH wire went to the TH-W on new box. The green (GND) wire on this unit was not long enough at all. I had to use some bell wire (which is red in color and I connected with a female 1/4 quick connect cap) to go from the GND on black box then all the way down and around until I looped it around a screw that attached the the metal place near the flame ignitor (see pic). The rest of the installation was no problem. I had used a wrench to dismantle the gas pipes (you can see examples how that goes on you-tube) and I made sure the clean them threads off with a wire brush, and apply new 'pipe-dope' to the threads once I put them together. Finally once it was all together I sprayed a water-soap mixture over the pipe connections I just put back on to make sure there were no bubbles (which would indicate a leak). Once the unit was turned on, it worked perfectly. Just give the system a few tires to push out the air with natural gas (since thre is air the pipe because you just removed it). I had a purchase a 1/4 female quick connect for the black wire coming from TH-W on the black box to connect to the current black wire which was connected to TH on the old gas valve, and a 1/4 male quick connect for a new wire to connect from the GND on black box all the way down to the screw on the ignitor plate near the sparker. All in all it took me about 90 minutes. Just do you homework and you'll be fine with this installation.

I started to install but when I had to change over to LP I decided to call a service man. A new manometer would cost me 50 dollars for a one time use. I wasn't too excited about the wiring directions. I haven't got the bill yet but I bet it's scary. He spent a lot of time with the electrical which I thought was strange. It works great would recommend to a friend. I would remind him about having it installed by a service tech.
