Great products, fast shipping, great service

I bought this fitting to do some experimenting at my house. I'm doing a little research into using 3/8 PEX for shower and sink supply lines. I've read and read and read everything I could find to see if it was worth trying and all I could find were very mixed results. So I decided to just try it and see how it worked. This fitting made it possible to connect 3/8 PEX relatively close to the water heater. My basement is unfinished so I was able to tack up the PEX to the floor joists and tie it into my shower that's about 35 feet from the water heater. I used another PEX adapter to hook into the existing water supply line going to the shower and used a PEX cap to cap off the original half inch PVC supply. I have 40 psi supply pressure from my well tank and had no problem supplying water to the shower. It cut the wait time by 2/3 and is a significant reduction in wasted water. So now I'm looking into converting my entire hot supply over to a PEX home run system and leaving the trunk and branch in place for the cold supply. So this one little fitting has helped me discover what I'm hoping will be significant savings.

Sharkbite Fittings are Great

My water supply system required 100 push to connect sharkbite connections. I followed Sharkbite installation guidelines. No Leaks. Completely satisfied. Note, proper insertion depth and clean square cuts on PEX-A pipe are key to no leaks. For PEX piping I highly recommend Klein Tools 1 inch PEX Piping and Tube Cutter model 50043 for perfect clean square cuts.

The Max Series is Best

This is the Max series fitting. Picture is not correct. Much less play of piping upon insertion which makes quite a difference over the original versions of Shark Bite fittings.

These work as intended

Shark bite connections are perfect to make a quick connection, would like to make a mock up, or for projects in which you don't want to make permanent connections; for example, to replace components in the future.

Does the job

Installing a pressure gauge that has 1/4' male NPT fitting. This took my 1" PEX down to 3/4" male NPT. Then a stainless 3/4" female to 1/4" female. Used 2 of them, no leaks at all, 40 psi static pressure on the line.

Sharkbite fittings are not rated to ASTM D3139. They are certified to ASSE 1061

Q: I know there are some Sharkbite connectors are single use; is this one of those? Or will I be able to remove and re-use?

I'm now aware of any single use Sharkbite connectors. You could unscrew this and reuse in a different location after disconnecting whatever tubing you have connected.

You can reuse these many times, but you need an orange key, these look like the letter C and fit over the pipe. Once on the pipe you simply push toward the Sharkbite and it unlocks from the pipe.

You can use the Sharkbite fitting as many times as you want. Just purchase the Sharkbite orange plastic disconnect tool for 1/2 inch for a dollar or two. I would cover the threads first with Teflon tape, and then thread sealant.

Q: Does sweating a piece of copper on to the sharkbite mess with the integrity of the shark bite?

SharkBite fittings should not be sweated to directly to copper, however copper pipe can be used with SharkBite fitting connections. If you need to connect 1" copper pipe to the male threaded end of a U140 fitting, we would recommend that you use a WP3-16 fitting.

You will need to use SharkBite part U139. It has a 3/4" SharkBite connection on one side and 1" male threads on the other.

Q: I have a 1" AquaPLEX main water line. Can I use these to route the water main through a new filter and softener? I am using 3/4 because 1" PVC fittings are not readily available, will this make a huge difference in water pressure?

You can use this 1" x 3/4" fitting. Pressure will not change but volume may.

No. The only ways you can connect to MANABLOCs are compression, crimp, and press connections.

Q: I have a WeilMclean WTGO 3 oil fired hot water boiler used for domestic hot water and hot water baseboard heating. I wanted to use Sharkbites to make some repairs on the copper and fittings on the boiler. Are these fittings rated for such? I see they're rated for 200psi and 200* temps. Thanks, John
