I purchased 5 gaskets to save some for future needs. The first one I broke while trying to remove the cover paper from the sticky side, but this served as a lesson, and I was able to successfully install the second one. I did follow the advice of another reviewer and installed it on the basket side. Few weeks later I'm still happy with the results. I tested it leaving the sink filled with water overnight, a few times. I used putty before and that was squishing its way out to the point the drain basket would become somewhat loose and would allow water to get through.

Buy more than one your first time using.
I did buy several first time using (smart of me!). Trick to installing this decal seal is to install it on the basket and not the sink.
You'll find the dimensions of the seals are smaller than advertised. By 1/16th which makes fitting a sticky seal difficult.
Second trick to installing; peel off/remove only 3/8" section of the paper cover protecting the adhesive. Apply only that portion to the basket at first. Leave about an additional 1/4" of folded over paper backing as a means to grip ad peel off the rest of the paper backing. This allows you to be able to slowly .. a little at a time .... peel away the paper backing as you press and apply the seal in the exact location. I say exact location due to the seal being undersized and wishing to apply the seal concentric to the basket's flange/circumference.
As for sealing; it works.

Much better than putty!
As other have mentioned, it is better to attached the sticky side to the basket.

Don't waste your money
The glue backing is tougher than the foam gasket. Impossible to take off paper backing without destroying the gasket. Attempted to install two of these gaskets both broke trying to take off the backing. Impractical product needs better quality design.

Better than buying a whole jar of putty
Used this on a big ol vitreous China farmhouse sink with a special fireclay rated drain body. I took the advice of the other reviewer and stuck it to the fitting and not the sink. I carefully tore the backing paper and peeled it back a little at a time while I stuck it down. This is firmly in my crafty skillset. If you don't have fingernails and patience use a utility knife to get it started and try to relax. Worked great first time. Love it.

I would buy it again
these seals work great no putty needed. One thing when I received the product. A lot of the seals were crinkled up but I think I can make them work.

THE answer to installing kitchen basket strainers
I am amazed that plumbers putty is still being sold and used. This no-putty gasket is so simple to install! After repeated leaks using plumbers putty, this product worked the first time!
