A must have for in-floor radiant heat!

The contractor installed a wall-mounted thermostat (with TINY grey display!!!) that measured air temperature. The house was either too hot or too cold. Up & down, up & down adjustments while peering at the pathetic display. By using an infrared scanner, I found a neutral spot in the concrete floor when the temperature reflected the average concrete temp. So, I ripped out the wiring, threw away the "popular" thermostat & bought this one. I chiseled out a 1.5" grout line & cemented the floor sensor in place. With the floor temp on 75, the water temp on 120 degrees, the house is cozy in the low 70's - almost too hot, so I'm still tweaking. With the air thermostat, the boiler would run for hours till it got to temp, now it runs 10-15 minutes & shuts off. I cant wait to see my fuel bill next month. This unit is incredibly easy to adjust, the install took one call the mfgr tech support to verify the correct wiring. Well worth the price - a great value for the price.

Just be careful

As all Tekmar components that I've used, it works well, however, be aware that this thermostat uses PWM technology. The thermostat will cycle frequently. Depending on application, this make cause your system to 'short-cycle'.

Kicking butt with Tekma

This module was very quickly updated to our installation and it is performing flawlessly. I am impressed with Tekma for continuing to make a robust and interchangeable part.

Will Short cycle boiler

Stay away from this product. It will reduce the life of your boiler . The PWM feature can not be turned off with a floor sensor and cycles boiler for 2 minutes at a time. Very disappointed with this product.

Top class T-stat

This is a fine thermostat. I'm using it to control the in floor hydronic zone valve and boiler circuit. The temperature in the room is kept within a degree of the set temperature, never below the set point and seldom above it. However, be warned...the simple SPST relay in the thermostat caused me to have to add a SPDT relay to the zone valve circuit. Perhaps I should have bought the model made for heating AND cooling which I suspect has the SPDT relay built in. Regardless, this is the best thermostat out of the five in my house by a huge margin. Today is January 16 and it was -2F outside this morning and the room was exactly on the 68* set point, by 2PM the temperature was 20*F and the room was still 68*F. At 3PM the sun was coming in through the west window and the room remained at 68*. I am impressed.

Great item at a good price

Just what I needed for my radiant heated basement floor, that I wanted a thermostat with a floor sensor to better regulate the heat. Good price and not too difficult to install

I have 3 in our house

I use these in rooms that I don't need a programmable thermostat. Work great, the floor sensor really helps with the radiant heat. Just wish it had a battery backup.

A great little thermostat for radiant floor heating.

My heating contractor neglected to install a thermostat for the bathroom zone. I was able to install this and now the bathroom floor is nice and warm this winter. Good design and easy to install. The programing is a little tricky, would like to see a popup menu on the display.

Hi Gene! The 10' sensor is what comes standard with the 519, but the 072 (20') or 073 (40') sensor can be purchased if you need the longer lengths.

Q: I have a radiant heat slab with peerless boiler, Beckett burner. The boiler has Honeywell L7224U1002 Aquastat and TACO SR 502 relay for heat zones. Will I need 4 conductors to hook up this thermostat? 24v & TT. Can the slab sensor be laid on top of the concrete directly under click laminate flooring?

For assistance with wiring please refer to page 10 of the installation manual: http://s3.supplyhouse.com/product_files/Tekmar%20-%20519%20-%20Install%20Instructions.pdf Pages 5-6 would also detail the location of the slab sensor depending on the thickness of the laminate flooring.

There is the TekmarNet Internet Gateway, sku 485 that would enable TekmarNet thermostats to be accessed remotely. Only that product line of thermostats would be compatible with this Internet Gateway.

Q: I have an 8 zone radiant floor system that currently uses regular old thermostats meant for forced air. I am seeing that these style thermostats such as Tekmar Radiant Floor Thermostats would work better. To replace my previous thermos, without using the floor sensors, do I need to do anything special or will the wiring that is currently provided in the wall work? Thanks

With out knowing the thermostats you are replacing I can;t say whether or not they will be a direct replacement, if you are not using the floor sensor it will work no differently than a typical wall thermostat.
