50/7.5 MFD Round Dual Motor Run Capacitor (440/370V)

I replaced my GE dual runtime capacitor in my 14 year old A/C Trane Condenser Unit which had failed in August 2020. The first thing I noticed was that Titan HD was about 70% the diameter as the older GE capacitor. I mainly bought the Titan HD because it appeared that it might be slightly higher quality because it was manufactured in USA and was more expensive. Within 3 years, with an estimated lifetime of 1500 hours, the capacitor failed even though the specs say it should last 60,000 hours. My feeling on why a capacitor could fail is that the smaller size produces higher electric fields because the plates are closer together and the possible difference in Dielectric material. An ideal capacitor will have no internal impedance but real life capacitors do. The repeated charging and discharging produces heat and my feeling is that the smaller size of these capacitors allows for a smaller surface area to dissipate produced heat so these smaller capacitors might need to operate at a higher internal temperature compared to a physically larger capacitor. A larger physical capacitor of the same capacitance rating of uFarad, Voltage and frequency will produce lower electrical fields between its plated and a larger surface area will passively dissipate internal heat better via its larger surface area which results in lower sustained operating temperatures. I replaces the failed capacitor with a Titan Pro which is a standard size diameter and at half the price so let's hope for a longer life than under 3 years.
