the A works for Air temp alone, the AF can control works with both air and floor temp.
The A and AF thermostats are identical in every way except the AF includes the remote sensor (thermistor). If you buy the A or AF you can still use the switch settings to put it into A/AF/F modes. The only difference between F and AF modes is whether or not an external sensor has been connected. The switch settings are the same and it's AF mode with a sensor and A without. The other mode setting is for F mode only and it ignores ambient temperature even though it will still display it.
