Overview
The Tempra® series has been redesigned completely inside and out - upgraded heavy-duty electronics, a simple single flow sensor design, a hinged cover for easy access, and Advanced Flow Control for the Tempra® Plus. Welcome to the next generation of German quality.
Unlimited Supply of Hot Water
The Tempra® continually heats water instantaneously as you require it - and only when you require it. The Tempra® unit completely replaces a conventional tank heater with no disruption to your comfort and hot water needs.
Tempra Plus Featuring Advanced Flow Control
The Tempra® Plus is the most technologically advanced tankless water heater available on the market today. Advanced Flow Control is exclusive to the Tempra® Plus and ensures a constant temperature output no matter how great the hot water demand is.
Advanced Flow Control technology works by automatically adjusting the flow of water to eliminate unpleasant temperature fluctuation. What that means to you is a consistently satisfying experience every time, all the time!
Save Energy and Reduce Your Electric Bill
Electric tank type water heaters are subject to stand-by losses which amount to 15 - 20% of the kWH used. In addition, water in a tank has to be heated hotter than necessary to account for these stand-by losses.
Changing to a tankless system like the Tempra® eliminates these problems and results in typical savings of at least 15 - 20% on the hot water portion of your electric bill.
Control Temperature Simply By Setting a Dial
Set the knob on the front cover and enjoy water temperatures between 86°F (30°C) and 140°F (60°C). Change the desired temperature at anytime. Advanced microprocessor technology ensures that the water temperature never deviates from the set point.
Proven Reliability
Stiebel Eltron has an enviable track record of engineering excellence and product quality. The three years parts warranty is unique in the industry. You can depend on the Tempra® for many years to come.
Sleek Design Fits in Anywhere
The Tempra® takes up considerably less space than conventional tank type water heaters and saves valuable living space.
No Venting Required
The Tempra® has several advantages over a gas-type tankless water heater. Compared to many similar gas tankless models the Tempra® is less expensive to purchase. Installation is also much simpler and cheaper since it is not necessary to vent a Tempra® to the outside.
The venting that a gas unit requires causes anywhere from a 10 - 20% efficiency reduction from heat escaping out the exhaust pipe. Furthermore, for every cubic foot of gas burned, roughly two cubic feet of air have to be mixed in to create ideal combustion. In a cold climate, this hurts efficiency further.
When a gas unit fires it draws in air around it, heats the water, and then expels warm exhaust outside. Since no house is airtight, this suction action causes a drafting condition where cold air from the outside seeps back in through door cracks and other parts of the house that may not be airtight.
By nature of the design, the Tempra® is nearly 100% efficient; converting 100% of the electrical energy it consumes into heat. All that heat is then transferred to the water - none is lost to the outdoors.
Superior, reliable performance
The Tempra® has several temperature and flow sensors which feed their readings into the unit's proprietary microprocessor control. Heating elements are engaged in stages, achieving the temperature you desire. The Tempra® continually monitors the water temperature it produces.
We bought this product to replace another tankless water heater and found the switch out to be seamless and simple. The product hasn't disappointed either. It is fast and efficient and we are very happy with it.

So far, So good
Great to install, good directions and the one question we called the mfg about was answered quickly. We are heating just one full bathroom with it now, but have another one in the works to add to the load.
The tank itself seems very well built, and I appreciate the simplicity of the design and replaceable parts should the need arise.
The only reason I only gave it four stars is to wait and see the savings on my electric bill, and how it functions this winter with colder incoming cold water.

For an electric TWH not bad
it produces decent HW for an electric tankless. Wiring requirements are nuts but that's the gig. Prob the best brand for this application on the market.

Nice heater
Looks great, let's hope it lives a long life. Make sure to read the specifications as it draws a lot of amps.

Tankless hat water works
Fast delivery. Easy installation. It works. A tankless water heater is compact and takes up no floor space. This unit only runs when there's a call for hot water. I've installed this model before. Reliable and with minimal maintenance. Make sure your water is soft or softened.

This is such a "cool" product.
This is a great product as long as you keep it descaled. Do not let it go past a year without descaling or the heater will break down. Otherwise you have on demand hot water without a big tank taking up space in your house and then flooding it when it blows.

Very happy
Install was straight forward, not very difficult. Works better than my oil furnace hot water and at $6/gal oil, saving money. Water pressure may even be better. Also, installed it closer to the fixtures so getting hot water faster. No complaints, quality unit. The screen is a little difficult to read if you're short and/or mount it above your head but I only looked to set the temp. once, not an issue.
Q: can i use this product in a closed system filled with anti-freeze for use as the heat source in a heated driveway?

We don't recommend it. The heater is not approved for use in space-heating applications. Aside from that, electric domestic water heater generally do not have fast enough recovery for space-heating jobs and their elements may not react well with glycol.

On-demand water heaters are not rated with an estimated annual cost. The Tempra 36 PLUS draws 36 kW/hour at full load, so you can multiply your average weekly usage by your kWh rate by 52 to determine a rough figure. Keep in mind that 36 kW is a full load rate and the heater modulates to lower amperages when possible.

The Tempra 36 Plus is energy efficient compared to a tank water heater, only drawing power when needed. Over the long run, it will save you energy.

Tankless water heaters are sized based on peak GPM (gallons per minute) demand. A standard shower requires 2.5 GPM. If you have two showers running at the same time, for example, you would need a unit that provides 5 GPM.
