Note: This thermostat is designed to be used with a tekmarNet® House Control, Wiring Center or Zone Manager for power and communication.
It can also be used in stand alone applications.
The tekmarNet® Thermostat 553 is a communicating touchscreen thermostat designed to operate two heating stages, one cooling stage, a fan and relative humidity. The heating stages can be hydronic, forced air or a single stage heat pump. The cooling stage is either an air conditioner or heat pump. There are two auxiliary sensor inputs available to measure room, floor, outdoor, coil or duct temperature. The optional floor sensor allows precise heating of radiant floors by controlling the floor temperature and maintaining the desired room air temperature. Relative humidity level can be measured and controlled using the built-in humidity sensor. The large touchscreen allows you to easily adjust 7-day programmable schedules and room temperature to optimize comfort and energy savings. The 553 can connect to tekmarNet® controls using two or four wires or it can operate as a stand-alone device.

Minor quibbles
I have two zones that have both radiant and baseboard hydronic heat. The 553 is the only t'stat I could find that gave good control of the baseboard and radiant valves. My gripes are: 1.) Loss of power for 4 hours causes loss of date/time setting. 4 hours? Really! 2.) The scheduling settings can be challenging to the user since the screen doesn't indicate which of the two "away" settings you are on. 3.) Price seems very high, but for the two valve functioning mentioned above, it seems to be the only choice.

Tekmar 553 in retrofit install
I'm using the Tekmar 553 and 552(s) in a retrofit installation. Zone Pump controllers are Taco 504's. I have implemented slab sensors and still use the built-in air temp sensor. I ran new T-stat wire and made my own "wiring center" to implement TekmarNet communications, which seems to be working great!
I have 4 zones in the main living space. Having one "master" T-stat sending Date, Time and Event programming to the "slave" thermostats is a big plus. Coordination between heat/cool cycles is another plus.
I'm just a homeowner and programming the T-stats is a bit of a challenge.

The Tekmar 553 Thermostat Rocks!
I replaced my Tekmar 543 two stage thermostat with the 553 and now I have complete control over first stage radiant floor heat and my second stage hydrocoil heating system. The 543 didn't provide any user control over second stage heating but the 553 lets you set first stage run time and set point differential to determine when the second stage kicks in.
I do wish they offered this thermostat with only two heating stages and no cooling control. Most high efficiency air conditioners are two stage and have their own proprietary communicating thermostats to take advantage of all of their features.

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffNo, this thermostat does not come with the floor sensor. It is compatible with the 072 or 073 slab sensors, but those would have to be purchased separately.
