Will Crack and Leak on Street Fittings
This experience is currently only with the 1 " LF ball valves. When inserting a street fitting right into valve and pressing, press area will develop minute cracks that weep water. This is on the inboard side of the O-ring nearest the housing. Typically after a few weeks.
Had to replace three valves on one job all with a street fitting inserted into leaking side. I have had no issue with the 1" "non-potable" version of this valve so I figure its a malleability issue with the LF brass being stressed while being pressed over the thicker tubing wall of the street fitting end. Then after a few weeks, they begin to leak from housing as described. I will continue to use with standard tubing as they have exhibited no problems in that application and plan jobs to avoid insertion of street fittings in these valves. I have experienced no problems with street fittings in the smaller diameter valves.

Cracks and leaks after pressing
Have now pulled out 3 of these valves from a job. Leaks aren't evident right away but appear within a month. It appears stress cracks occur after pressing. Location is always on the inboard side next to the main housing. The pressed area then begins to weep at at least one point. This occurs only with the lead free valves and only with the 1" size so far though I can't speak for the 1 1/4". I have 1" valves from the same company on the boiler system that are not lead free and they are fine. I have come to the conclusion that the lead free alloy is brittle and cracking lacking the malleability of the non lead free versions. I have stopped using this brand in the 1" size and larger. Webstone needs to get a handle on this. I have noticed some valve manufacturers are using separate copper or brass press ends on their valves to possibly get around this issue in the LF versions. The smaller diameter LF versions of these valves have been holding thus far. These failures fortunately are weepers and not catastrophic yet still must be addressed. These recent failures have forced me to rebuild an entire bypass valve arrangement and a couple hours work. I went to 1" IPT female Watts LF valves with male press adapters as I had to stay with press due to other fitting proximity precluding soldering. The tool is a one year old Milwaukee M12 in good working order.
