Easy Purchase

I purchased this unit to replace my 11-year old A.O. Smith ProMax water heater that had a slow leak. The ground shipping took 3-weeks to deliver; however, it only took 3-hrs from unpacking to installation in an attic before I had nice crispy clean hot water. The order process was so easy and delivery to my home was a plus. I'm looking forward to getting another 6+ years from this new A.O. Smith water heater.

I would not recommend

I have had to have it repaired twice to keep the pilot light going. Now it will not stay lit again. The cost of repairs every year or two is bad enough, but the inconvenience is worse. You never know it you will have hot water when you get up. I wish I had never got this heater.

Didn't last two years

After about 16 months we had problem with rust in the hot water. Flushing it produced a brown mud coming from the drain. Two months later the bottom of the tank ruptured and flooded the garage.

Walk-in Bathtub

We had a walk-in bathtub installed, and our 40-gallon heater didn't do the job, so we bought this one and had a hot water booster installed as well. So far, it has done the job for which we got it. There isn't a whole lot you can say in glaring terms about a water heater, other than it does its job.

A. O. Smith 50 Gal. ProMax Gas Water Hea

This is a great water heater. I am replacing the exact model which was installed in my new house 14 years ago. It was still running perfectly but two external valves connected to my A/C had rusted and instead of replacing the valves I decided to replace the whole unit. I never had a problem with it and no telling how long it would have lasted.

Nice unit

Website details were 100% accurate and was certain I was buying a unit that would work in my location. This unit replaced my older smaller AO Smith unit that lasted several years longer than the expected service life. Also able to operate this unit in the low temp setting with ample hot water.

Q: After the expense of the product, how much more expensive will it cost to run a 50 gallon over a 40 gallon?

This would be very difficult to quantify. Your water bill would be the same (a bigger tank does not necessarily lead to more water use), but your utility bill would likely increase (more water to heat in the tank). The amount depends on the gas rates in your area.
