The ProLine 40-Gallon Atmospheric Vent Tall Natural Gas Water Heater is designed to deliver an economical performance that can lower your energy bills and also provide long-lasting value. Featuring a 40-gallon (nominal) tank and a 40,000 BTU gas burner, the XCR-40 Standard Vent delivers a first hour rating of 80 gallons and a recovery rate of 42 gallons per hour. It carries a 10-year limited tank warranty, and meets Low NOx emission requirements. Environmentally-friendly insulation and factory-installed heat trap nipples reduce heat loss for maximum energy savings. This ProLine water heater is designed with A. O. Smith's superior commercial-grade tank protection. Advanced tank features include stainless steel CoreGard anode rod, Blue Diamond glass lining and DynaClean automatic sediment-cleaning system, all designed to help protect the tank from the corrosive effects of water and extend the life of the water heater. A. O. Smith's ProLine water heaters are residential products built to commercial-grade standards and are only available for purchase through professional wholesalers and contractors.

I would buy this water heater again
I installed this unit in my home. Installation was easy. I had to use some soldering skills to hook up dedicated recirculating system, but other than that it all went smoothly.

Excellent product, arrived on time
Cosmetic damage: A bit disappointed that the top cover was crushed. Not Supply House's fault but it appears AOSmith positioned the protective collar at the top of the box off by 90 degrees. Otherwise bombproof packing box was unscathed.

Good Value, Easy Installation
Standard Home HWH, natural gas: Easy to install: Fired up on first try. Running better than old HWH this model replaced
Note to DIY'ers: This is shipped Freight, NOT Residential. It comes on a skid tied down. Unless your home can accommodate a Semi Trailer, be aware that the driver of the tail-lift gate is only obliged to drop of the unit at a safe location, In other words, make sure you have a couple of guys available on Drop-Off Day to move the unit; ideally to its final location. it is not heave: 125lbs, but cumbersome and the woutide walls are easily dented.

This AO Smith Heaters last
This my second set of AO Smith heater. I had the old ones for 12 years, and proactively replaced them. The 10 year models have better anodes in them - Magnesium instead of aluminum. The seem to hold up well.

The water heater I was looking for.
It was scheduled to arrive between May 11 and the 13th. It came on the 17th. The instructions say leave it strapped to the pallet until inspected. It was off the pallet and on the way down from the truck by the time I got to the truck. The box looks OK. I will not unbox it until I'm ready to install it. May be in a week maybe in 6 months. Just having it when I need it gives me piece of mind.
