Four filters should last 3 to 4 years AFTER the INCLUDED MERV 13 FILTER THAT CAME WITH THE HOUSING. This size lets the 3.5 ton heat pump breathe easy and also seems quieter when running.

Updated furnace and A/C and decided to update the original April Air Filter box. Old one had broken combs and was a pain. For a few bucks more that getting replacement parts for the old one, just replaced the entire thing.

Previously I had an in ceiling 1" filter. I understand why they do it, because my equipment is in my attic installers figure homeowners don't want to go up there to change the filter. Anyway, in the course of my DIY install, I found that for the entire life of the house the return air plenum box was not even sealed at all. No tape on the seams or to the air handler unit. The bottom flange (horizontal install) didn't even have screws. So when I put my hand around it I could feel the air from the attic being sucked into the system, gross. I always smelled a little attic smell when my AC would kick on but I just attributed it to stale air sitting in hot ducts in my attic, but it wasnt, it was attic air. My wife and I both had congestion and sneezing issues and although mild they were persistent. After properly sealing the new filter rack and the return plenum box and cleanup the original crappy install, the air is noticeably better. I no longer have any congestion or coughing issues, so I couldn't recommend this unit more or a high rated filter rack that fits your application. As a bonus, my total static pressure actually dropped across the new filter as compared with the static pressure from return box to supply box (no filter). I did clean the coil though so not apples to apples at all but it went from .65 to .45.

Fixed and cleaned up a temporary filter arrangement in my father-in-law's garage furnace. He was using an egg crate grill from a light fixture to prevent large stuff from getting into blower but did nothing for the dust. This was a cost effective and cleaner solution.

I recently purchased the Merv 13 Media Air Cleaner (2210) that was highly recommended by a youtuber and to my surprise it has been a blessing. The item arrived in record time, I mean I had to stop other projects in order to get this one started. Since I know very little about HVAC, other than a bunch of metal boxes making sound, the Merv 13 was simple to install. 12 sheet metal bolts later, the Merv 13 was ready to prove itself. I did not notice the difference until 8 hours later. The air was much cleaner and crisp, a feeling that I've only had while up in the mountains 2000ft. The true critique came once my wife mentioned the crisp and cool air in our bedroom. That's when I knew the Merv 13 was getting the job done. I really wished I had tried the Merv 13 sooner, however, I am letting my friends know that I can help them improve their home conditions one Merv at a time!

Good products to work with

I installed this myself using info from the internet. The filter is performing excellently. If you have tin snips and a tape measure its a half day job including the trip to the home improvement store for sealant, ect.

I purchased 2 of these (Both MERV 13) to replace an electrostatic system that came with the air handler. I have noticed a marked reduction in the amount of dust that is circulating, better airflow (due to no more "pre-filter") and surprisingly the air seems cleaner. Overall, I strongly recommend this unit.
