Large Fan Power Humidifier w/ Digital Automatic Humidistat

Aprilaire humidifier installed on supply side of ductwork uses outdoor air temp sensor to automatically set humidifier output. No more daily resetting humistat as outdoor air temperature changes.

Installation is medium difficult in my opinion. That is because I wanted to cut into the supply plenum (I personally would not use this on the return (cold) side of the furnace - seems counter-intuitive to introducing moisture into heated air). The cutout must be pretty accurately sized and working with sheet metal can be sharp and tricky. The wiring, again, is not rocket science, but you need to pay very close attention to the instructions/wiring plan. The unit functions exactly as advertised and does a great job ! Two final thoughts on water supply: it must be input from the hot water. A year or so later a friend commented that the water drain pipe should only have a small output trickle, dontcha know ? Mine was more like a flood. So I installed a needle valve between the water supply line and the humidifier and started reducing the input flow to the unit. With a little tweaking of the valve, I got the output from the bottom of the unit reduced to a small trickle (remember it's a transparent plastic tube !). No negative impact at all on the system's effectiveness. Now I think I see a reduction in my water bill (which did go up $8-10/mo in the winter when I first installed this); my wife thinks I'm seeing unicorns. Good luck.

Works well, wish it had a higher range of humidity. The unit will only allow you to reach 45% at the digital contoller. In the house the humidity will only reach 35-37%

Aprilaire refused to supply repair part even though it was a brand new machine and left it up to the seller. Seller had none in stock and had no idea how to order a repair part; finally ordered it and not available for 4 weeks.

I installed this unit a few days ago in the air handler of my air conditioning system. I have baseboard heating. The air handler was the only option. I piped hot water from the nearby hot water heater to it. It's a night and day difference in the whole house humidity. The house is 3300 square feet. It's now consistently at 45% humidity throughout. It will run for 2 hours and take a break for 1 hour. It turns on every hour for 3 minutes to sample the humidity. There is one thing that didn't work as well. I wanted to control it using the Nest Thermostat's "*" line. It didn't work. Therefore, I am using the supplied humidistat to control the machine and it works very very well. I would recommend this unit to anyone who wants a more comfortable house in the winter. However, if you are hell bent on using your Nest to control it, you may run into difficulties.

In two humidifiers from three, I bought it were leakages. But the system is fine, simple, and working well. I recommend installing the humidifier on the return duct, so it will work under negative pressure.

Only had installed for a few hours and humidity is up 7% from 29% with outdoor temp around 40 F. It's a noticeable difference. Currently running on manual mode. Have not installed the outside probe yet. Planning on running cable from basement to attic to northeast facing peak. Pleased with operation, very quite. Draining to condensate pump.

It works great, so far no issue.

Install was easy, product this far has worked great. My only complaint and reason for 4 stars was the length of the wire leads for the outdoor probe, it would have been nice to include a decent amount of wire on the probe.
