This is a direct replacement for Slant/fin 432-554-000
Hydrolevel low water cut-offs are electrically operated. A probe is installed in the boiler shell or external manifold and is connected to the control unit. Water is used as a conductor to complete the circuit between the probe and the boiler shell. When water is in contact with the probe, the circuit is completed; when the water level drops below the probe, the circuit opens. Hydrolevel controls provide contacts to de-energize the burner circuit in a low water condition.

Perfect replacement.
Had a short cycle problem with my boiler. The bigger problem was it was intermittent. I eventually traced it to my low water cut off. After unhooking almost everything else electric from the boiler I could hear it ever so faintly try to turn on and off at the cadence the boiler would turn on and off. Once I got this in and installed - real easy remove and replace - the boiler started running normally again. Very happy with it.

It depends on what type of burner controller (flameguard) the boiler has. Typically you want it wired in series with the operating control (t-stat), Hi-limit and the Hi and Low gas pressure switches.
