Description

Resideo Q3400A1024 Hot Surface Ignitor with 30" Leads

The Resideo Q3400A1024 is a hot surface ignitor designed to provide reliable ignition for gas furnaces and heating systems. This ignitor features a 30-inch lead wire assembly, giving installers the flexibility to reach the gas valve even in installations where components are spaced farther apart. Built for use with Resideo SV9500 and SV9600 SmartValve systems, the Q3400A1024 delivers consistent, dependable performance in residential and light commercial heating applications. This ignitor serves as a direct field replacement for older Q3450 and Q3480 hot surface pilot burner assemblies, making it a versatile upgrade or repair part for many existing systems.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 30-inch Lead Length: The extended 30-inch wire leads allow for flexible routing and easier connections in furnaces with widely spaced components, reducing installation time and simplifying service calls.
  • Igniter Flame Rod Assembly: This integrated assembly combines the ignition element and flame sensing rod into one unit, streamlining installation and reducing the number of separate parts to manage during furnace maintenance.
  • Compatibility with SV9500 and SV9600 SmartValves: Engineered specifically for use with Resideo SV9500 and SV9600 series gas valves, ensuring seamless integration with these modern control systems for dependable, safe operation.
  • Field Replacement for Q3450 and Q3480 Systems: This ignitor directly replaces older Q3450 and Q3480 hot surface pilot burner assemblies, making it a straightforward upgrade or repair part that extends the service life of existing heating equipment.

Compatibility & Requirements

The Q3400A1024 is designed for use with Resideo SV9500 and SV9600 series SmartValve gas controls. It serves as a field replacement for Q3450 and Q3480 hot surface pilot burner assemblies. This ignitor requires proper electrical connections to the furnace control board and must be installed according to the manufacturer's specifications to ensure safe, reliable ignition and flame sensing.

What's Included

  • Hot Surface Ignitor with Flame Rod Assembly
  • 30-inch Wire Leads

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know if my hot surface igniter is bad?
A: Signs of a failing hot surface ignitor include the ignitor not glowing when the furnace calls for heat, the furnace failing to light even though the ignitor appears to glow, or visible cracks or breaks in the ignitor element itself. If the ignitor does not glow at all, check the electrical connections and the control board output first. If the ignitor glows but the furnace does not ignite, the issue may be with the gas valve, gas supply, or flame sensor rather than the ignitor.

Q: How long do hot surface igniters last?
A: Hot surface igniters typically last between three and five years under normal operating conditions, though lifespan can vary based on usage frequency, furnace cycling patterns, and installation quality. Systems that cycle on and off more frequently or experience power surges may see shorter ignitor life. Regular furnace maintenance and proper electrical supply can help maximize ignitor lifespan.

Q: Is the Q3400A1024 a direct replacement for the Q3400A1008?
A: Yes, the Resideo Q3400A1024 is the direct replacement for the Q3400A1008. The Q3400A1024 maintains the same electrical specifications, mounting configuration, and lead length, ensuring a straightforward swap in existing systems. Always verify compatibility with your specific furnace model and gas valve before ordering.

Q: Is the Q3400A1024 compatible with the Resideo SV9501M2528 gas valve?
A: Yes, the Q3400A1024 hot surface ignitor is designed to work with the SV9501M2528 and other Resideo SV9500 and SV9600 series SmartValve gas controls. This ignitor provides the ignition and flame sensing functions required by these modern gas valve systems.

Q: Can the Q3400A1024 replace the Q3400A1016 ignitor?
A: The Q3400A1016 has been superseded by Armstrong part number R42640-001, which is the current replacement part for that model. While both the Q3400A1024 and R42640-001 are hot surface ignitors with 30-inch leads, verify your furnace model and gas valve specifications to ensure the correct ignitor for your system.

Q: What is the difference between the Q3400A1024 and the Q3400A1032?
A: The Q3400A1024 is the replacement part for the Q3400A1032. Both ignitors share the same lead length, electrical requirements, and mounting configuration, allowing the Q3400A1024 to be used in systems originally equipped with the Q3400A1032.

Q: Is the Q3400A1024 compatible with the Resideo SV9570A2518 SmartValve?
A: Yes, the Q3400A1024 is compatible with the SV9570A2518 SmartValve. This ignitor works with the SV9500 and SV9600 series gas valves, including the SV9570A2518 model, providing reliable ignition and flame sensing for these systems.

Q: How do I install the Q3400A1024 hot surface ignitor?
A: Installation involves disconnecting power to the furnace, removing the old ignitor by disconnecting the wire leads and unscrewing the mounting bracket, then positioning the new Q3400A1024 in the same location and securing it with the mounting hardware. Connect the wire leads to the furnace control board, ensuring proper polarity and secure connections. Restore power and test the furnace through a complete heating cycle to verify proper ignition and flame sensing. Always follow the installation instructions provided with the ignitor and local electrical codes.

Q: What should I do if the Q3400A1024 ignitor glows but the furnace does not light?
A: If the ignitor glows but the furnace does not ignite, the issue is likely not with the ignitor itself. Check the gas supply to ensure the valve is open and gas is reaching the furnace. Verify that the gas valve is receiving the proper signal from the control board. Inspect the flame sensor for buildup or damage, as a dirty or faulty sensor can prevent the gas valve from opening even if the ignitor is functioning. If the ignitor glows for the proper duration and then the control board shuts off without ignition, the gas valve or control board may need service.

2-year lifespan in fireplace?

The product matches the original Honeywell one and installs easily enough in the fireplace. My complaint is the lack of durability. I've had these last anywhere from 12 months to 8 years. Fireplace gets lit 1x per day but only for a maximum of 5 months out of the year. That's an average of 150 uses per year. Since this unit is also used in gas ovens, how does Resideo get away with such planned obsolescence? I don't recommend the product based on this, but it's the only option, so I'm stuck on a biannual cost of replacement and installation.
