16" x 47.5" Ultra Fire Resistant Duct Panning Sheet

Was re-doing a lot of old joist panning in my 70 year old house. First I used regular sheet metal panning from the local big box but no amount of tweaking and fussing with it would get rid of the clanging and clunking noises I would get when I walked on the floor above it. I could get it tight enough to eliminate most of the clunking but then it would reverberate like a drum head, and vise versa. After some research online I found this product, which is basically thin cardboard with an aluminum facing that can be stapled to the joists. The big box stores didn't carry it though and couldn't even order it for me. Locally I could only find Thermo Pan at HVAC supply houses and none of them would sell to me. Said I had to be a licensed contractor and open an account and blah blah blah. Very annoying. I get that they don't want people walking in and wasting their time with "so my furnace is kind of making a funny noise, any ideas?" but if I'm calling saying "I need 12 units of part number XYZ, how much and when can I pick it up" then refusing to sell to me is pretty silly. Anyways, end rant. Glad I found supplyhouse, and I will be using them for my future HVAC needs. They had everything I needed, had great prices, and everything arrived promptly and well packaged. Very satisfied. Ultimately Thermopan was easy to install and eliminated all of the annoying noises, as well as making for a nice clean edge. I used a basic hand powered stapler with 3/8 SS staples every 2 inches. Thermopan has a 1 inch grid on it which makes it easy to space them evenly. End result was very clean. I tapped the staples flush with a small hammer and sealed all of the edges and seams with 2 inch foil tape so the return isn't sucking basement air into the system. Trying to get that kind of air tight seal with sheet metal on 70 year old lumber joists would have been somewhere between tedious and impossible.

However, supply house shipped it folded to fit in the shipping box. Customer Servive did ship a replacement. However, it appeared to have a footprint embedded in one of the replacement pans. The other looked as if it was run over with a cart or dolly. I used what I could, and shipped what remained back.
