Part is exactly what we wanted

The thermostat is exactly what we wanted and it works well.
VS

Most Liked Negative Review

Pretty horrible experience.

1st, it was a surprise that this unit wouldn't operate without batteries.. Now I have an annual maintenance chore and maybe a rude awakening one freezing night when the batteries are dead. 2nd, the unit leaves a huge unpainted area from the old thermostat's silhouette. 3rd, for my heat pump, it requires 2 jumper wires in addition to the control wires. There is a tiny slot for the wires to pull through and the entrance of the terminals are about 5/8" apart, requiring hemostats to push the wires in the terminals. No fault indicator or emergency heat switch, so I had to incorporate that into the fabricated adapter plate. Overall, I would NOT buy this item again.

This is my standard tstat for my retired clients

My retired clients want a simple reliable thermostat. My experience tells me the brand offered by the main retailers has at 50% fail rate. This one is 100% reliable. I get it here.

Q: My thermostat is reading low. I don't have the Manuel and I want to replaced the batteries but I can't seem to get it off the wall or open it up. I don't want to destroy it so I do I remove it so I can replace the batteries

This thermostat requires 2 "AAA" alkaline batteries to operate. If is displayed, the batteries are low and should be replaced. For best results, replace batteries once a year with new premium brand alkaline batteries such as Duracell® or Energizer®. To replace the batteries, install the batteries along the top of the base (see fig. 1). The batteries must be installed with the positive (+) ends to the right. https://www.screencast.com/t/bS0cOO5hX

Q: We have a White Rodgers non programmable thermostat and when we turned it on the first time this year, the "flame" symbol flashed for a short while. What does that signify? It stopped after a minute or so and the heat was working. I was concerned that it may represent a problem. I couldn't find an answer online. It is for electric heat pump.

The flame symbol is flashing when the thermostat is calling for heat.

Q: What do i do when the compressor is in lockout mode? Will it restart eventually or is this an issue with the a/c unit?

You can restart it yourself. You can reset the thermostat by pressing the up and down buttons at the same time while moving the SYSTEM switch from OFF to HEAT. This also resets the factory defaults.

I replaced an old mercury tstat with White Rodgers 1F80-0261. It has programability of 5+1+1 whereas the 1F78-151 is 5+2. The F80 is about $20 more than the F78. My biggest reason wasn't the programability but that I could power the F80 off the 24v transformer that powers my furnace gas valve. I had to draw a simple wiiring diagram to see how the existing tstat was wired and figure out what was needed for the F80. All digital tstats need power and the F78 is battery only. If my power goes out the F80 has batteries to remember the program but I use it on in manual so that doesn't matter to me. I wanted a newer digital tstat and I wanted one that could be powered off the system 24v. I am happy with how the F80 works and I like White Rodgers

Q: Non-Programmable Thermostat, 24 Volt or Millivolt system, Horizontal Q: what does a flashing asterisk under the temp setting mean? You answered: If there is a flashing snowflake beneath the set temperature (the number on the right side of the display), it means that the compressor is in lockout mode. My question: What do I do?

According to the Installation Instructions, many furnaces have safety devices that shut down when a lock-out condition occurs. If the heat works intermittently contact the furnace manufacturer or local service person for assistance. You may need to clean your filter, clean your coil, or if you are cooling, you may be low on freon.

You need to use the down arrow (located toward the upper-right of the thermostat) in order to decrease the setpoint temperature.

Just push the button down. The first time it will not move just keep pushing it down till you get to the temp you want. Make sure you are heat.
