Great addition to my home HVAC system.
I connected the Aprilaire 500M to my 12 year old American Standard furnace without difficulty. I had to do a fair amount of research to connect the wiring to my Ecobee4 thermostat but in the end it works great. I never have to think about it while it maintains the appropriate humidity in my northern Ohio house. I am very pleased with the unit. The only reason that I did not rate it a 5 star is that I had to do the research about the electrical connections myself.

Nice basic unit
I was hoping for more from this unit. Wiring schematics are null. and if installed as instructed, you get a pool of water in the bypass duct. Going to need to alter the wiring a little from manufacturer suggestion.

Easy Install and Great Results
I have installed a number of 700s, but this was my first 500 due to limited space. Since I had to install the humidifier on the return runner instead of the traditional placement on the supply runner, I will be interested to see how effective it will be for the homeowner

Works great!
Replacing an older, equivalent model that lasted over 25 years. Simple remove and replace using existing wiring and plumbing. Basic design remains the same, so I expect similar reliability. Old one outlasted the furnace.

Q: Hi,my furnace is already plumbed for the earlier Aprilaire 550 and the warm air inlet is on the right hand side of the 550 unit ,but I see on the 500M the warm air inlet is on the left hand side ,my question is,is there anyway to change the side that the warm air inlet is on ,on the 500M model

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffThe models 500 and 500M are very easily converted to a right or left hand discharge by removing the evaporative assembly from the inside, by spinning the base 180 degrees and reversing the hole plug on top of the unit and drain spud on the bottom. This takes only a couple minutes at most.
