A standard, off the shelf thermopile converts heat energy from the pilot flame into electrical energy to operate the gas valve and microprocessor. No need for external electricity.
- Enhanced Performance - Proprietary algorithms provide enhanced First Hour Delivery ratings and tighter temperature differentials.
- Advanced Temperature Control System - Microprocessor constantly monitors and controls burner operation to maintain consistent and accurate water temperature levels.

excellent water heater
I'm just getting ready to replace my 15 yr old Bradford White 40 gal. gas heater and I will be replacing it with the exact same thing 40 gallon short gas water heater. I have not even had a service call since the day we put it in. And we are a family of four. Great Item very happy.

The water-heater was plug and play retrofit.
The issues are: limited 6 year warranty, and mediocre efficieny.

We had this water heater in the propane version and converted over to natural gas. We liked it before so we knew we would enjoy the natural gas version. Heats up quickly and was an easy install since it was the exact same size as the old one.

A great mid-range hot water heater
This unit was the right height for changing out old unit and delivers enough hot water, that even my wife no longer complains about there not being enough hot water for her shower after mine.

The plumming company installed a new one 2.5 years ago. It broke.. $1,500 in water damage to my carpet, dry walls etc.. The water heater is in its own room but water somehow goes underneath walls... New foam underneath the carpet needed, paint, fans, dehumidifier, clean up crew etc.. I like to write good things about good products however I'm shocked here.. This product stinks.. Yeah the warranty is nice however not needed on a good product. Plumming company came in and replaced the damaged unit with the same (new) unit and charged me $515 in labor and parts.. Does this sound right? How long will this unit last? 6.25 years? What about the plummer? $300 for labor and $215 in parts?

Great heater
I ordered two of these and did a parallel installation (house has 3.5 baths and a whirlpool tub. The heaters were easy to connect and the Honeywell gas valve make it easy to light the pilot and get things going. They both started right up without any fuss and the burner flames look great. It took only about 45 minutes to go from full cold to the B setting. That turned out to be too hot for us so I moved in back to between A and B. The heaters came with the pressure relief valves in the package. It was great to find these at Pex since Bradford White is not usually available at retail.

Solid Choice
Normally I perform research before buying products. In this case the research followed the purchase. I was pleased to learn Bradford White WH are considered #1. Similar tanks from Whirlpool and Kenmore lack the better magnesium anode. Model MI403S6FBN is a tradition atmospheric vented tank. The model is 79% efficient but I can turn down the water temperature down when leaving the house to work. The next step up in efficiency is a power vent model. Power vents mean motors to go bad and require an electric plug. Simple is always best for longevity.
The burner controls are from Honeywell and are reported to be 1st rank. A skilled handyman installed the tank with no problems.

Fantastic product
I replaced a whirlpool heater that we had for about 7 years. I had never heard of Bradford White before I bought this unit. PexSupply had a great price and delivery was smooth. The installation was a super easy. The quality of construction and the components on it are solid. Nothing cheap on it or about it. When it's running you don't even know it. The recovery time is also great. We have 4 in our house and this 40gallon tank seems to always be enough water. I am very hard to please and NEVER leave product reviews unless I am 100% satisfied. You will not regret getting this unit or any made by this manufacture.

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffThis unit did not meet the new NAECA requirements for higher energy factors on water heaters being manufactured as of April 2015. The units are simply no longer in production due to these new requirements, and have been replaced by newer models that meet the requirements. Replacement parts are definitely still offered and will be available. There is a video on the NAECA change in the video section of the website.

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffThis atmospheric vent water heater must be connected to a lined masonry chimney or venting system. It is not approved for horizontal venting. If venting through the roof of the building use of a vent cap will protect the exhaust flue from the elements.

Verified Reply- PexSupply StaffBoth units are 40-gallons, but keep in mind that this Bradford White model uses atmospheric (not power) venting. Bradford White's M-1-TW-40S6FBN is their closet alternative to the A.O. Smith GPSH-40.
