This Bradford White water heater utilizes a draft diverter and is atmospherically vented. It is perfect for many standard water heating applications.

Features:
  • Bradford White ICON System - Intelligent gas control with proven millivolt powered technology and built-in piezo igniter. A standard, off the shelf thermopile converts heat energy from the pilot flame into electrical energy to operate the gas valve and microprocessor. No need for external electricity.
  • Enhanced Performance - Proprietary algorithms provide enhanced First Hour Delivery ratings and tighter temperature differentials. Advanced Temperature Control System - Microprocessor constantly monitors and controls burner operation to maintain consistent and accurate water temperature levels.
  • Intelligent Diagnostics - An exclusive green LED light prompts the installer during start-up and provides ten different diagnostic codes to assist in troubleshooting.
  • Pilot On Indication - Flashing green LED provides positive indication that pilot is on.
  • Separate Immersed Thermowell - High strength advanced polymer composite thermowell provides isolation between electric temperature sensor and surrounding water. No need to drain the tank when removing gas valve.
  • Advanced ScreenLok® Technology Flame Arrestor Design - Flame arrestor is designed to prevent ignition of flammable vapor outside of the water heater.
  • Resettable Thermal Switch - Proven and reliable bimetallic switch prevents burner and pilot operation in case of ongoing flammable vapor burn inside of the combustion chamber or restricted air flow.
  • Maintenance Free - No regular cleaning of air inlet openings or flame arrestor is required under normal conditions.
  • Sight Window - Offers a view into the combustion chamber to observe the operation of the pilot and burner.
  • Factory Installed Hydrojet® Total Performance System - Cold water inlet sediment reducing device helps prevent sediment build up in tank.
  • Increases first hour delivery of hot water while minimizing temperature build up in tank.
  • Vitraglas® Lining - Bradford White tanks are lined with a exclusively engineered enamel formula that provides superior protection from the highly corrosive effects of hot water. This formula (Vitraglas®) is fused to the steel surface by firing at a temperature of over 1600ºF.
  • 1" Non-CFC Foam Insulation - Covers the sides and top of tank, reducing the amount of heat loss. This results in less energy consumption, improved operation efficiencies and jacket rigidity.
  • Pedestal Base.
  • Water Connections -3/4" NPT factory installed true dielectric fittings.
  • Factory Installed Heat Traps.
  • Protective Magnesium Anode Rod.
  • 3x4 "Snap Lock" Draft Diverter - Allows either 3" or 4" vent connections with inputs of 40,000 BTU/Hr or less. Over 40,000 BTU/Hr. has the 4" "Snap Lock" Draft Diverter. T&P Relief Valve - Included.
  • Brass Drain Valve - Tamper proof design

Excellent water heater!!!

I purchased this water heater to replace an aging 15+ year old American heater. It was filled with sediment, flowed far less than 40 gallons before water became cold, and even at 160F on the thermostat, water was only 120-130 degrees max. This water heater is also faster for heating being a 40k BTU vs 36k BTU. There is no delay either in main burner ignition. The water heater will fire the burner after only a gallon or two has been used. The newer Honeywell gas valve is exceptionally accurate. If you set it to 140F, the water is indeed 140F. And the monitoring LED is a great aid if something should ever go wrong.Simply put, this is a great water heater that is more than competitively priced compared to units from big box stores. For exceptionally competent DIY homeowners, PEX Supply is great for making Bradford White heaters available[...]without them having to pay highly inflated prices[...]

This broke right after 6 years

This was installed in 2012 and right when the warranty was over the water heater stopped working. The technician could not figure out what was wrong with it and after several attempts at him fixing it I had to buy a new water heater. No wonder why this is discontinued. I will not be buying anymore products by this manufacturer.

Working great after 9 yrs

this water heater was installed in my new home in 2008. Works great although I have started to hear popping out of it. I figure it needs to be flushed and get the sentiment cleaned out.But it seems to be working great and i see no reason to buy a new one

So far, so good

Used as a replacement for a 15 year old version of this model. Only instalation changes are the gas entry is one inch lower on the new model, so I had to replace a 4" gas pipe with a 5". The water inlet and outlet are in the exact same place, wheee! Delivery service was fine, no problems. It's suppose to be more effiecient but time will tell if I see any savings on my gas bill.

Great product

I purchased this unit because it was the same model as the one I was replacing, and replacing it with the same model saved time cutting pipe to make it fit. Be forewarned, this model is 1 1/4 inches taller than the same model manufactured just a few years ago. I did have to cut and solder pipe to make it fit, but after it was all done, it is a great heater.

Bradford and White 40 gallon

My husband thoroughly researches whatever we purchase, so selected this particular water heater over our A O Smith. The latter was eight years old and leaking from its top, so replacing before the thing completely died seemed optimal. The new water heater operates at a much lower setting than the A O Smith ever did for the same "feel" of water temperature. Also, a small flashing light denotes proper function of the unit. We live in an area with particularly hard water so am hoping this Bradford lives up to its reputation.

I bought TWO

My old water heater was starting to leak. So I went online to look for a Bradford White water heater. Of all the places I've looked, Supply House had the best deal and free shipping. So I took a chance. There was a deal to buy two and it was a little less in cost. So I decided to buy two and just keep one for storage. Upon getting the Water Heater, it was shipped on a pallet securely tied down by fright. They come on time and as stated. When I put the water heater together, everything worked out. The thread connections didn't match my old pipes, so I had to do some adjustments on it. It was also shorter then my older water heater so I had to make some height adjustment to raise it up to reach the pipes. After all is done, everything works perfectly.

Great Product and Customer Service

I needed to replace an old Bradford White 30 gallon heater in a hillside cottage. This product still fits easily in the rather cramped downstairs location and provides much more hot water with much better reheating time. I received the product quickly even though it was ordered during the recent severe snowstorms.

Excellent Value, Price and Service

The last water heater, same brand and equivalent model lasted 20 years. Shipping dent was handled overnight with a fair price credit adjustment to my credit card. I bought one for me and one for a neighbor to save us both money on shipping charges. Will order more for my business sales and installation. Four day shipping across 3 states to my door.

Bad choice

Had an AO Smith for 25 years no problems till it started leaking. Was talked in to this unit. First week experienced cold water intermittent then rotton egg smell. Ended up replacing anode rod with new one. Of course no warranty.

This water heater has an energy factor of .59 . A water heater's energy efficiency is determined by the energy factor (EF), which is based on the amount of hot water produced per unit of fuel consumed over a typical day. The higher the energy factor, the more efficient the water heater.

Q: I have a Bradford MI40T6FBN4. Is this the same as the MI40T6FBN model? Mine has the 4 at the end of it. I'm not sure if anything is different because of the 4 at the end

The 4 at the end of the model number is an engineering series number. It is used internally by Bradford White and does not signify any differences on the unit itself.

Q: How do you change the Anode Rod? I just bought a house with this water heater, connected to water well. The hot water smells badly because the water has been sitting in the tank for months. We drained the hot water, so most of the foul smell disappeared, only to come back after few days. I've drained the water heater 3 times already. I think this heater is less than 12 months old. Can I drop a cup of bleach in the tank to kill any bacteria and smell?

The anode rod can be replaced by unthreading it at the top of the water heater, puling it out, and replacing it with a new one. This may be difficult if the top of the water heater is close to a ceiling. You can also try to flush the tank with chlorine to eliminate the odor.

Q: How do you drain off a gallon of water to remove silt and sediment for a M‑I‑40T6FBN water heater?

According to the manufacturer, the drain valve towards the bottom of the tank allows you to open and close it with a flat head screw driver. If there is not room to place a bucket under the valve a hose can be threaded onto it and placed into a bucket. Be cautious of the hot temperature of the water!

This water heater works very well for me. It does not make any noise and we always have hot water. It seems to be very efficient and I would recommend this unit to another customer. Also I felt the price was very good.

It's not labeled as Energy Star...so I would assume it is not. But then again, I'm not the pro.

apparently not here in florida, teco gas, the supplier, requires .63 or higher for this rebate authorization however the regular rebate or $350 does apply versus $400

Although this unit has a 6-year warranty, it can operate for up to 15 or 20 years. We see no reason to replace it unless you are having problems with the water heater.
