Description

The Caleffi MixCal three-way thermostatic mixing valve is used in systems producing domestic
hot water or in hydronic and radiant heating systems. It maintains the desired output temperature
of the mixed water supplied to the user at a constant set value compensating for both temperature
and pressure fluctuations of incoming hot and cold water. The MixCal is fail cold: for any failure of
cold or hot inlets or valve function, the hot water port closes.

Good quality mix valve, but forget the thermometer
The quality and function of this is nice, with a few disappointing details.
This valve functions well and is easy to install with its three gasketed unions included.
The disappointments are that this is the same 3/4 in valve, but the three unions are adapted up to accept 1in pipe. The only concer with this is the restriction to flow, as volume of water use increases. I ordered this in one inch to avoid pressure drop when multiple people shower at the same time, and was disappointed that the valve itself was not larger.
Also disappointing is the thermometer in the same regard. The built in tempers well appears so large and so deep into the pipe Union, that it certainly contributes to pressure drop issues. I would order it without the thermometer.
I must admit that the above is from visual observation, I have not had enough guests here yet to comment on the actual performance with high volume hot water use.
