Air separators are used to continuously remove the air contained
in the hydronic circuits of heating and cooling systems. The air
discharge capacity of these devices is very high. They are capable of
removing automatically all the air present in the system down to the
micro-bubble level.
The circulation of fully de-aerated water enables the equipment to
operate under optimum conditions, free from noise, corrosion, localized
or mechanical damage. Micro-bubbles, fusing with each other, increase
in volume (get larger) until they become large enough to rise to the top
where they are automatically released.

So far, so good!!
I'm using this to remove air from a hydronic baseboard heating system, and so far it's working great!! I took it apart before sweating it, and I'm glad I did because the float is plastic. I think for the price, I would definitely buy this again.

Great product for the price
I have installed several of these 3/4" DISCAL air separators and they do a great job of scrubbing air from low temp radiant floor systems. The caps screw on tight for pressure testing, they're nice and compact, and must be fairly high lead content because they solder very nicely. The only gripe I have is the cheap Caleffi sticker, there is no way to solder these things without burning the corner of the sticker. I'm ordering another as I type this, just noticed there were no reviews so here I am.

Q: I believe this part has failed in a radiant floor system - operated for 4 years. Can the interior components be replaced without having to re-plumb? In other words, take the top off and leave the housing but put in new parts?

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffThe air separator is best installed where the flow is slowest, and water temperatures the hottest. Generally this is after the boiler and before the circulator.
