Water Saver Humidifier w/ Manual Humidistat

An excellent choice where water is a premium or expensive. Changing the pad more often is a small price to pay for less water consumption. Getting the relative humidity up to 20 or 25% is success where it would otherwise be 7-12%. Fan ON is a practical option for maximum performance especially when used with an ECM blower motor capable of very low energy consumption - adding the benefit of even temperatures throughout the conditioned space. Installing the unit level cannot be overstated.

This Aprilaire 400m is super easy to install and even easier to connect with a Nest 3rd gen if you know where the wiring go. If you have the right tools, cutting the duct won't be too bad but spend the money and get a good pair of tin cutters. The humidifier works seamlessly with the Nest and everyone is enjoying the comfort!

I received the unit quickly. Installation was easy as the connections on my previous Aprilaire bypass humidifier were similar to the new one. The manual says it will work with cold or hot water but recommend using hot water. I connected it to the cold supply as the piping was already there. My furnace is 96% efficient so the air blowing through the water panel is warmer than my previous 90% efficient furnace. Therefore, I assume if heat makes the unit work better then I met that requirement. My problem with this unit is that it doesn't humidify the air enough. The description says it will humidify up to 4000 sq. ft. My home is only 1800 sq.ft. so this humidifier should be overkill. My house is fairly tight with 2x6 construction and Andersen double pane low E windows. The humidifier struggles to keep my house at 39 -40%. 39% is in the unacceptable range and 40% is just in the acceptable range. I checked the wicking part of the panel and it is only wet about 4 inches from the bottom. (the panel is 12" tall). When the resevoirs at the bottom of the panel fill up the floats shut off the water supply, supposedly saving water. But when the water shuts off you no longer have water cascading down from the top of the panel leaving the wick to humidify the air. The wick is only 40% wet so in my opinion that is why it can not supply enough moisture. On another site a commenter who observed the same problem as mine removed the floats and placed magnets on the switch sensors so that if the humidifier was on, the water would always casade down the panel. Of course now he just converted the unit from a drainless humidifier to a regular bypass one. I'm not at that point yet but will continue to try to get this thing to work as it should, and as advertised.

I received humidifier fast and installation was what I expected but it does not produce as much humidity as I thought but I installed water on cold side, There is good water flow, however according to to humdistat on and off click its about 42% humidity, it seems that the media pad needs to be replaced once a month due to excessive corossion, I know the type of water I have it causing the corossion and if I hook water to hot water side that it would produce more humidity. So I guess my review of this humidifier is a positive one.overall I really like this humidifier and the water saver feature, my advice is to check the pad and the water resivour once a month and clean corossion so effective humidifier operation will continue for years to come.

I would give 5 stars if I could get the humidifier working. It's on a Lennox 96% efficient furnace with Lennox thermostat and , so far, the thermostat is not allowing the humidifier to work. Had I known all the problems this has caused I would not have purchased Lennox. SupplyHouse.com is an excellent company to deal with.
