The ProLine 50-Gallon Atmospheric Vent Tall Natural Gas Water Heater is designed to deliver an economical performance that can lower your energy bills and also provide long-lasting value.
Featuring a 50-gallon (nominal) tank and a 40,000 BTU gas burner, the GCR-50 Standard Vent delivers a first hour rating of 84 gallons and a recovery rate of 43 gallons per hour. It carries a 6-year limited tank warranty, and meets Low NOx emission requirements.
Environmentally-friendly insulation and factory-installed heat trap nipples reduce heat loss for maximum energy savings.
This ProLine water heater is designed with A. O. Smith's superior commercial-grade tank protection. Advanced tank features include stainless steel CoreGard anode rod, Blue Diamond glass lining and DynaClean automatic sediment-cleaning system, all designed to help protect the tank from the corrosive effects of water and extend the life of the water heater.

AO Smith water heater
I purchased two AO Smith water heaters. One is the older model gvr-50 and the other is the new gcr-50. Visually the two units look the same except the newer model is gray. I installed them myself with no problems (the hardest part was getting them in attic). I did follow my local code and added expansion tanks (got those from Supply House as well). After installation both units started up flawlessly. So far I have had no issues. Supply House customer service was excellent and I would definitely do business with them again.

Q: Regarding A.O. Smith model # GCR-50 I currently have dual A.O. Smith 50 gallon propane hot water heaters model # FCG 50 249 Can the GCR-50 operate using propane? Would 2 of these units be a comparable replacement to what I currently have? Thanks, Dave 720-937-7999

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffHello Dave, Not the GCR-50, but the GCR-50-LP would be the Propane version of it, and as for a compatible replacement to the FCG-50, you will be better off with thte GCRT-50-LP.
