These are hard to find

I use these on all of my baseboard and fan forced hot water heating units. In the event you have to drain the system adding these elbows with air vents make the removal of air from the line super easy! I HIGHLY recommend them in every installation. Now, I know what you are thinking... I have an air scoop in my system and the water will push the air through the lines and out the air scoop. It doesn't. Add these with manual air bleeder valves and you will be thankful that you did. As always I love supplyhouse.com for having the right (and often hard to find) part for a reasonable price with reasonable and fast shipping. When ever I can afford to wait the 2 day ground shipping time (for my area) I will always order from this website. They have made a life long customer out of me.

Works good.

I replaced a straight 90-degree elbow with this one in order to add a vent. It soldered fine (with an air-acetylene torch), the vent threaded in properly, and it's working fine.

Best way to instal a vent!

I used this in my indirect water heater loop to install a vent. With the loop going up tothe ceiling, down to the water tank, back up to the ceiling and back down to the boiler it made for a high spot that would be difficult to remove trapped air from. While normally used for baseboard heat, it also worked well in this heating loop. I used a watts auto vent and had zero problems with air, or noisey gurgling from the heating loop.

Q: Is it any more effective to install this so that the coin vent is on top rather than the side?

A manual coin vent can go either way, a float vent should always be vertical.

You would need a copper fitting adapter. An example that works with the crimp connection system is SKU:H060750LF. Thanks

Q: do you recomend one of these at each baseboard? Does an air eliminator at the boiler take the place of air bleeds at the baseboard?

An air eliminator at the boiler would be able to remove air for the whole system.

Q: Does the screw come with the part? If not, what size screw does it take?

This part does not come with a screw. People generally use a Taco 417-3 coin vent in the 1/8" threaded opening.
