Description

A Heat Recovery Ventilator is a complete whole house ventilation system that incorporates a supply motor and an exhaust motor in one unit. It is designed to bring a continuous supply of fresh air into the home while exhausting an equal amount of contaminated air. HRVs use what is known as a "sensible" heat recovery core. The special aluminum core transfers heat from the exhaust air stream to the incoming air stream. Fresh incoming air is tempered by the heat that is transferred from the outgoing air so you save on energy costs. HRVs are designed for colder areas of the country that have longer heating seasons as well as drier desert areas of the South.

Features:
  • Powder coated 24-gauge galvanized steel cabinets
  • Fully insulated with 1" aluminum foil-face high density foam
  • (2) German manufactured motors with backward incline impellers
  • Aluminum heat recovery core
  • Compact design
  • Mounting: Suspended by chains and hooks
  • Three speeds
  • Recirculation defrost model
  • External screw type dry contacts for quick connection of remote controls
  • (2) Electrostatic filters (washable)
  • 50-142 CFM (24-67 L/s) @ 0.4" w.g.
  • 3' plug-in power cord
  • 6" side port duct connections

Very decent HRV

Our mid-90's vanEE unit finally died, so I purchased this Fantech SHR-150R as a replacement and installed it myself with help from my wife. Shipping was really quick and everything arrived in good shape. Hanging and wiring of the unit was pretty straightforward, no issues encountered. Had to reconfigure the existing 6" ducting immediately around the unit (because the side vents were opposite those of the previous unit), which was VERY challenging, frustrating, and time consuming, but that is mentioned as a caution to other DIY'ers and is NOT intended as part of this rating. Paired this new unit with a Fantech EcoTouch IAQ main wall control and four (4) RTS2 20-minute timer override controls. Unit works as intended and seems to perform very adequately. As for why I docked it one star - whenever the unit is run at the max fan speed (called "NORMAL" by Fantech), the two fans inside the unit produce a whining noise (similar to a very muffled jet engine) that I consider excessive since it travels through the ducting to all the end registers. But at this highest fan speed, the unit moves LOTS of air, probably more than necessary for our 2,800 sq. ft. house, so the lower "REDUCED" speed is the one that is primarily used on a timing basis (20 minutes per hour). The ECO-Touch IAQ wall control is extremely flexible in controlling multiple fan speeds and therefore helps in controlling the sound level.

Heat recovery ventilator

Ventilator works great. Went through 25 below zero temperatures and did not freeze. 90 day return policy at Supply House was a life saver. Returned two units, one shipping damage and the other was defective. No questions asked.

Great replacement for. 20+year old HRV...easy to install

Well engineered from this architects point of view...installed in an hour and has been adding to my health for a month now. Have another Fantech HRV and would recommend that company.

Installed for Radon mitigation and worked like a charm!

I'm a non-smoker lung cancer survivor, so we tested radon levels in our new house. They were significantly elevated at over 6. We had a traditional mitigation system installed that sucked air from below the slab, and it dropped it below 2. That's normal but my wife wanted it as low as possible. We had a small crawl space under an add-on that wasn't addressed by the previous mitigation so I installed this unit. It was a breeze to install and it immediately dropped the radon levels to near ZERO. Now I have a man-cave in the basement with fresh air!

good product, bad packing

got the item only to find that the cover was bent in 4 places and there is no replacement from the factory. will not buy one of those again even though there is a warranty in place.

Standalone basement install

Supply house was great. Super fast shipping and they had every component I needed. Bought a home with exposed bedrock in the basement and radon just under the threshold sellers would have been required to mitigate. Remediation company gave us a reasonable quote to install one of these ($2200), but, being an ex-subcontactor, I did a lot of reading and did the install myself. It saved us $1200 and only took a couple hours. The unit came balanced and I just ran a single 6" intake to the opposite side of the basement from the outflow, which an anemometer (I know it's not a manometer, but I had it already) indicated didn't affect the balance. It's been running continuously on low for over a week and it's taken care of the majority of smell and condensation issues we had already. Being a fairly small basement this should be cycling the air volume every 90mins on low. I'll report back if I have any issues.

Good straight forward product

Excellent ventilator that I have used before. Would rate this a solid 5 stars, but my unit arrived with the paint on the door rubbed off in several places as a result of shipping. I have pictures, but was disappointed in the aesthetic condition of the unit which is visible in the particular location in which it is installed. This is a second unit, the first is 15 years old.

There is a total of four 6" ports on this unit. One for pulling in fresh air from the outside, one for expelling stale air to the outside, one for taking in air from the inside and one for expelling fresh air into living areas.
