Easy Out & Easy In with Exact Replacement Parts

The pump arrived in two days, well packaged and protected during shipping. This pump being an exact/duplicate replacement made very quick work to change out the 10 year old pump that failed.

Time will tell

This pump comes from the manufacturer with a pre installed plastic check valve. I wish I had a better understanding of the configuration before purchasing. In the description, this check valve is described as removable if not needed and less restricted flow is desired. The instruction regarding how the check valve is removed is not helpful. By design, the only way to remove the valve is by breaking it apart, pulling the core out with needle nose pliers, fracturing the brittle plastic into many small pieces. There remains a plastic retaining ring that is so deeply seated into a retention grove in the casting of the pump, I could find not find a tool small enough to fit, yet strong enough to remove that last part of the valve assembly. The instructions do caution against leaving any of the valve assembly in the pump, but I could find not a way to remove it. Given the sub zero temps, I could not wait for another pump to be delivered to this remote location… so I went ahead with the install. Not sure if I will leave the pump in place, or look for an alternative that does not have a check valve… time will tell.

A solid little work horse

This little Grundfos pump is a solid work horse! Heating a 2K sqft home with radiant floor heat. We tried one of the green pumps with all the fancy electronics, just a hot mess of problems. Way too over engineered. This Groundfos has 3 speeds with out the electronics mess and just works with out problems!

Great Pumps

Great product with one caveat. Pumps come with square O ring gaskets only. My pumps were installed with Grundfos Shut off valves which required me purchasing special 99882655 Grundfos gaskets. Installer had to make an extra trip and charge extra $$ to install my new Pumps. Bummer !!

I would buy again

I have radiant heat floors and two other pumps just like this one. The new one as well as the other two work great and my floor is incredibly warm.

ASK A QUESTION

Q: would this pump have enough power to supply water to 600 sq/ft of radiant heat on the 1st floor, and 4 hydronic baseboard heaters on the second floor? With the pump located on the 1st floor.

This depends on the flow rate and head pressure of the system. These figures are primarily determined by the BTU load of the area and the total equivalent pipe run. It is always recommended to use separate pumps for areas of baseboard and areas of in-floor radiant.

I would say yes, it has three speeds on hi speed I've heated 1800 sq feet. You can run into problems if your using very small tubing.

Infloor radiant runs differently than baseboard. Infloor temps. are 95-125 degrees. Baseboard is 165-180 degrees. You don't want 180 deg water running thu PEX. You get overshoot on the thermostat set point maybe 10 deg above set point just from the hot water in the PEX continuing to radiate heat. The 2 sys must be hydraulically separated. If a Condensing Boiler, it should be hydraulically separated from the two heating zones, too. The pump to the baseboard get 180 deg water--the pump to the infloor gets 95 deg water. You need injection pumping or a mixing valve (Taco I series) for the infloor setup to get 95 deg water in the PEX.

Q: Can I purchase replacement check valves for these pumps? I have a few zones that are pulling water when other zones are running. Im not sure if the valve is bad or it was removed when the pump was installed. I want to have the parts ready to go once the system is broken down.

We'd recommend pulling the flow check out with a pair of needle-nose pliers.

A low pressure heating system normally operates around 12 - 22 psi.

Q: I ordered the Grundfos ups15-58fc three speed pump and it works great and was simple to install. My problem is I had too much water pressure and installed a pressure regulator and expansion tank.I now have 40psi in the tank. What is the ideal psi? Don't want to damage the pump with too much pressure. Thanks

You will want your expansion tank pressure to match your system operation pressure.

Q: What's the minimum flow for this pump. I'm using it to circulate water through a coil in my coal furnace to my hot water tank and would like to get flow as low as possible by reducing pipe size. How low can I go without burning up the pump?

There could be air in the system or a problem with the impeller.

Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE UPS15-58FC AND 58FRC? THERE MUST BE SOME REASON WHY GRUNDFOS MAKES BOTH BUT THE SPECS ARE IDENTICAL AND I CAN FIND NO REFERENCE ON THE WEB TO ANY DIFFERENCE. I AM REPLACING A UPS20-42UA WHICH IS MOUNTED HORIZONTAL AND USES THE QUICK DISCONNECT SCREW TYPE FLANGES SO I WILL HAVE TO DO SOME REPIPEING. WHAT IS THE NEAREST SUB FOR THE20-42? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP
