The light turns on when a key is pressed. The light turns off about 15 seconds after the last key press.
It only go's on when you hit a button. Then shuts off like 30 to 60 sec later. Very happy with this thermostat.
Light turns on when you make adjustments. Turns off about 10 seconds after you stop touching buttons.
"Does the light display turn off until you want to adjust it, or is the light always on." The light goes on only when you operate the controls, and stays on only briefly after that.
The light goes off about 15 to 30 seconds later, I haven't checked to see if their a setting to change it though because P refer the default as it is.
No, the light will turn off automatically after about 5 seconds. Mike Sutinen
There is a button to turn the light on. Then the light is on for about 10 seconds and then it goes off automatically. Then it is off. Easy to read during the day or when the room is lit up and the back light is great for when the room is dark.

Q: I bought this thermostat to control 120 V baseboard heaters. When I connect it up as per the installation instructions. everything seems to work but the heater does not receive any power. I have verified with a volt meter that I do not get any voltage across the load terminals, even though I here the relay switching. Do I have a defective unit or am I using it in an incorrect application?

If your display is working - temp settings, and programable displays - I would venture to bet you got a bad one, if your display is not showing swap the wiring around ... mine has been bullet proof, since I got it. If you have any questions I called Pex on another topic and they were great with assistance. Sorry I could not be more help!
Not sure what you're doing but if you mis-connect the wires on the thermostat you will "toast" it immediately.
The application is correct and most likely the thermostat is not defective. As simple as this may seem, you probably have the Line and Load wires connected incorrectly. Look at the wiring diagram and follow it carefully. At first glance you think it connects a certain way, but in reality it does so differently. I know --- I made the same mistake the first unit I installed.
Q: Can this thermostat be used for 240 volt electric baseboard heaters like it shows in the Pictures, or is this only for 120 volt heaters? If not, which model will work in two pole applications?

it should work with this heater...the thermostat can handle up to 240V*15A = 3600 or 80% of 3600 = 2880W...
