The light turns on when a key is pressed. The light turns off about 15 seconds after the last key press.
It only go's on when you hit a button. Then shuts off like 30 to 60 sec later. Very happy with this thermostat.

There is a button to turn the light on. Then the light is on for about 10 seconds and then it goes off automatically. Then it is off. Easy to read during the day or when the room is lit up and the back light is great for when the room is dark.

No, Honeywell does not offer a digital/programmable line-voltage thermostat for cooling.
If your display is working - temp settings, and programable displays - I would venture to bet you got a bad one, if your display is not showing swap the wiring around ... mine has been bullet proof, since I got it. If you have any questions I called Pex on another topic and they were great with assistance. Sorry I could not be more help!
Not sure what you're doing but if you mis-connect the wires on the thermostat you will "toast" it immediately.
The application is correct and most likely the thermostat is not defective. As simple as this may seem, you probably have the Line and Load wires connected incorrectly. Look at the wiring diagram and follow it carefully. At first glance you think it connects a certain way, but in reality it does so differently. I know --- I made the same mistake the first unit I installed.

We are not familiar with King 2415W units, but this thermostat should work as long as it matches the specifications the heater requires.
