40/5 MFD Round Dual Motor Run Capacitor (440/370V)

If it wasn't for capacitor failures, I'd likely work a whole lot less. These last 10 years I've seen go from minimal capacitor replacements to almost every call. We're now checking every run capacitor we come across because call backs are expensive. If you're not checking virtually every single one, then today you're not doing your job.

I got 2 of these for my 30 year old AC. They fit perfectly and kickstarts the fan motor. However, they started failing when heat waves hit 100F for 2 to 3 days last year when we had 5 consecutive heat waves. I had to switch them out constantly. One time it failed in a day, the reason all being they couldnt reach the appropriate farads. I had to order another 2. When I ran out of capacitors, I did some parallel rigging and got them to run again just barely. It caused the motor to shut off from overheating after about 10 minutes though. However, after this over charging, each capacitor started working individually again. It seems during high heat conditions, something stalls somehow inside the capacitor which causes it to fail to charge and over charging it causes it to free up the electrical pathway. Perhaps its the chemical composition. Anyways, while it doesn't last long, it still is the rare few that fit my AC.
