Description

The V8043E1012 sweat connection zone valve is part of the Honeywell 1000 series, which is preferred among installers due to its ability to fit virtually every system, eliminating the need to stock a variety of valves. It features a long-life synchronous motor for smooth, quiet operation plus a convenient auxiliary end switch for switching between boiler, circulator pump and other devices with a single zone valve.

Features:
  • May be installed without disassembling the valve;
  • Manual opener (on all models, except straight-through, normally open valves) for valve operation on power failure; valve returns to automatic position when power is restored;
  • Complete powerhead may be removed or replaced without breaking plumbing line connections or draining the system;
  • Compact construction for easy installation;
  • Approvals of Underwriters Laboratories Inc (UL Component Listed: File MH11826 Vol. 1)
  • Actuator motor may be replaced without removing the valve body or draining the system
Applications:
  • Hydronic Control. Use this valve in closed loop hydronic systems that do not contain dissolved oxygen in system water, such as fresh water from frequent source of makeup water.
  • Valve designed for cycling (not constantly powered on) applications

Exactly what I needed but......

I am in the process of replacing a gas boiler and the zone valves, and the job is not finished yet...I am a DIY senior. I was skeptical and feared that when received, the valves would not be interchangeable with the old ones, as I did not want to replace the valve bodies, just the guts; got the valves and could not wait so I removed the guts from the old ones and new ones and swapped them; it was a breeze. My hat is off to this manufacturer. The price was right, the shipment arrived in just a few days and the instructions were clear.

These are a double edged sword in my opinion

I say these are a double edged sword because, in my experience, the failure rate tends to be fairly high but they are also very cheap, very simple, parts are plentiful, and they are easy to service when they do fail. I just renovated the entire hydronic heating system in my 60 year old home (which previously had these) and had to decide between sticking with these or changing to the Taco 570 series valves. The only reason I decided to stick with the Honeywells (four brand new ones) is due to the fact that I already have an entire bin full of parts for them, including FIVE complete powerhead assemblies, plus additional motors, end switches, o-rings, and valve components. Bottom line is I have enough spare parts that I probably won't need to actually pay for anything for another 20+ years. Had I switched to Taco valves I may have gotten 20+ years of service out of them without a problem (MAYBE), but would have spent more money and would have been left with zero spare parts in the event of a failure. If you are starting from scratch though, I would probably recommend you spend the extra money on the Tacos (or Caleffi). Or just use individual zone circs. In my experience every single Honeywell V8043 is going to need to be serviced one way or another within 5 years. It'll probably be a minor failure that is fixable within 10 minutes, but its still annoying when you walk into a room in your home to find that its 60 degrees, calling for heat, and the radiators are ice cold. Of the four brand new ones I bought for my recent renovation, one of them failed within a month. Of course SH was great and shipped me a replacement powerhead immediately at no charge.

Things you should know before you buy

These work well for some applications. Note they close fast and can cause water hammer. Make sure you .. install them only on the return with the arrow in the direction of the flow. Don't put more than 6 on a 45kva 24volt transformer. Make sure your fluid is good and not old and acidic. It would be better if the zone does not short cycle or stay on for extended periods of time. Other wise they die, I buy them by the case for replacements. Thermostatic zone valves last longer!

Exactly what I needed

Not only was this exactly what I needed but they had install instructions. I am a DIY person and was able to get my boiler up and running again in no time. Have bought multiple parts from supply house and each one has been the cheapest I could find anywhere and have saved thousands of dollars between the parts and doing it myself.

Q: What is the life Expetancy of these valves?

I have a couple hundred of these valves in service. It is the only zone valve I will use. Many have been operating for over 15 years without any problems. I have not had a single leaker - not one! A few end switches and motors have failed over time, but it is certainly the exception. I consider the V8043 series to be the best residential zone valve on the market. Bigshrub

Q: what happens if used on open system

The oxygen present in open systems can cause the rubber ball inside the zone valve to harden and break down.

Q: The two Honeywell motorized zone valves I have to replace are numbered V8043G1018. Is your V8043E1020 the new replacement. (I can't read the numbers on your fourth photo showing the box.) All the product stats appear the same as well as the 1-in diameter in/out pipe size. Is there a way to tell if I should just try changing the replacement power head component, 40003916-026. The problem I am having with my 30-psi oil-fired house boiler is the upstairs is getting no heat in the rads; while the downstairs gets too warm. I am thinking the upstairs valve is closed while the downstairs might be always open (as well as having leaked some water). I assume that some sediment likely builds up in the valve over time also...maybe problimatic.

V8043E1061 can replace V8043G1018, which is a Canadian model.

To . The 1018 is probably an older zone modle and you will have to change the complete zone valve. There could be several problems with upstairs heat. You should be only at 12-18 lbs of presure. could be blown expansion tank,bad water feed valve and you could be air locked in the upstairs loop

Yes, for the V8043E1012 valve, the entire powerhead is part 40003916-026. The motor alone (which is included with the powerhead) is part 802360JA.

You can change the motor or all the mechanical parts by substituting parts from another valve.

Q: How can I determine if the Sweat Zone Valve is 3/4" or 1"?

Asked by 14 years ago

Verified Author and ReplyVerified Reply- PexSupply Staff

The size of the zone valve is based on the nominal size of the pipe. 3/4" copper has a 7/8" outside diameter, while 1" copper has a 1-1/8" outside diameter.

Q: what is the difference between the V8043e 1012 and the V8043F 1036? I have a weilmclain GV4 boiler and want to change to motorized zone valves instead of seperate circulators on a 4 zone system. What would be the best valve to use with this boiler? Can I leave the flow valves in place?

The only difference between those two valves is the type of electrical connection: 18 in. leads for V8043E1012 and a screw terminal block for the V8043F1036.

V8043B1027 is the normally-open of of V8043E1012, the differences being that V8043B1027 does not have an end switch or a manual opener.
