Description

The V8043E1012 sweat connection zone valve is part of the Honeywell 1000 series, which is preferred among installers due to its ability to fit virtually every system, eliminating the need to stock a variety of valves. Features:
  • May be installed without disassembling the valve;
  • Manual opener (on all models, except straight-through, normally open valves) for valve operation on power failure; valve returns to automatic position when power is restored;
  • Complete powerhead may be removed or replaced without breaking plumbing line connections or draining the system;
  • Compact construction for easy installation;
  • Approvals of Underwriters Laboratories Inc (UL Component Listed: File MH11826 Vol. 1)
  • Actuator motor may be replaced without removing the valve body or draining the system
Applications:
  • Hydronic Control. Use this valve in closed loop hydronic systems that do not contain dissolved oxygen in system water, such as fresh water from frequent source of makeup water.

Exactly what I needed but......

I am in the process of replacing a gas boiler and the zone valves, and the job is not finished yet...I am a DIY senior. I was skeptical and feared that when received, the valves would not be interchangeable with the old ones, as I did not want to replace the valve bodies, just the guts; got the valves and could not wait so I removed the guts from the old ones and new ones and swapped them; it was a breeze. My hat is off to this manufacturer. The price was right, the shipment arrived in just a few days and the instructions were clear.

These are a double edged sword in my opinion

I say these are a double edged sword because, in my experience, the failure rate tends to be fairly high but they are also very cheap, very simple, parts are plentiful, and they are easy to service when they do fail. I just renovated the entire hydronic heating system in my 60 year old home (which previously had these) and had to decide between sticking with these or changing to the Taco 570 series valves. The only reason I decided to stick with the Honeywells (four brand new ones) is due to the fact that I already have an entire bin full of parts for them, including FIVE complete powerhead assemblies, plus additional motors, end switches, o-rings, and valve components. Bottom line is I have enough spare parts that I probably won't need to actually pay for anything for another 20+ years. Had I switched to Taco valves I may have gotten 20+ years of service out of them without a problem (MAYBE), but would have spent more money and would have been left with zero spare parts in the event of a failure. If you are starting from scratch though, I would probably recommend you spend the extra money on the Tacos (or Caleffi). Or just use individual zone circs. In my experience every single Honeywell V8043 is going to need to be serviced one way or another within 5 years. It'll probably be a minor failure that is fixable within 10 minutes, but its still annoying when you walk into a room in your home to find that its 60 degrees, calling for heat, and the radiators are ice cold. Of the four brand new ones I bought for my recent renovation, one of them failed within a month. Of course SH was great and shipped me a replacement powerhead immediately at no charge.

Things you should know before you buy

These work well for some applications. Note they close fast and can cause water hammer. Make sure you .. install them only on the return with the arrow in the direction of the flow. Don't put more than 6 on a 45kva 24volt transformer. Make sure your fluid is good and not old and acidic. It would be better if the zone does not short cycle or stay on for extended periods of time. Other wise they die, I buy them by the case for replacements. Thermostatic zone valves last longer!

Exactly what I needed

Not only was this exactly what I needed but they had install instructions. I am a DIY person and was able to get my boiler up and running again in no time. Have bought multiple parts from supply house and each one has been the cheapest I could find anywhere and have saved thousands of dollars between the parts and doing it myself.

The actuator is the silver control box sitting on top of the valve.

DC motor with brass lever and nylon bushings the valve is a round ball.

Was this review helpful to you?
- Wayne

It's a very thin blade, similar to a bottle opener on a jack knife. There's a detent in the slot for the blade to catch to stay open as the spring pulls the ball back to closed position. The detent will only catch if you deflect it just right with your finger, so it won't catch accidentally during normal operation. It's cheap but it works.

Air in your system could be causing the sound. Try bleeding/purging out your system.

Q: I have an old unit that, when the thermostat opens the 24VAC circuit, the valve does not close fully, which also leaves the circulating pump on. If you slightly move the gears behing the motor, the pump shuts off. Can I replace the head (motor, gears, switch, etc.) without turning off the water or draining a part of the system?

Asked by John D. 16 years ago

You can replace the head if the valve/actuator has 2 screw terminals. If you have 4 screws, it has to be drained.

The head can be changed with out draining the system. The motor and switch are a unit that can be replaced by taking out two screws. The valve will stay in the body.

Q: What is the purpose of the direction of flow in a Honeywell Zone Valve. What is the possible outcome if it is put in backwards?

Asked by 16 years ago

Add your answer

Verified Author and ReplyVerified Reply- PexSupply Staff

If you install the valve in backwards, you will not get the correct flow and will cause damage to the valve. As a result, the valve will fail over time. We strongly recommend you follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding installation.
