Rebate
Think Green, Save Green. Rebate and incentive programs provide cash-back to consumers for the purchase of appliances that meet certain energy efficiency standards. Most states are offering rebates in the $50 to $250 range. You can search for rebates in your area from here.

Note: Isolation valves are not included but are recommended for installation.

Released in 2010, the T-KJr2-IN & T-KJr2-OS are the smallest water heaters in the Takagi tankless line. This small, but powerful unit can meet all the hot-water needs of a small American home or apartment with one or two bathrooms. Designed to virtually do anything a 40-gallon tank-type water heater can do and more, the compact, wall mounted T-K Jr. can provide domestic hot water to plumbing fixtures and appliances.

Cost-efficient and environmentally friendly, the T-KJr2-IN can be converted into a direct-vent unit by using the optional TV10 conversion kit for installation in a garage, a utility closet or any confined space in which makeup air may be limited.

Used for in floor heat

I'm using this unit to run one zone to heat my 1,000 sqft garage. So far this is awesome! This unit is very quiet and makes 167 degree water effortlessly. Here are some technical aspects of my system. I have one zone with three loops of half inch pex tubing (all loops are 300' each) I have a taco 00R-MSF1-IFC multi speed circulation pump With a taco SR501 switching relay. The flow rate of my system is 2.4gpm. With a solid plan of what I needed supply house delivered everything I needed in addition to the Takagi I got all the fittings, expansion tank, air separator, webstone multi valves and venting with no problems. I should add that the customer at supply house is fantastic as well, my original order I purchased the z-vent 4" w/back flow kit I did end up returning and 100% hassle free. My venting solution was resolved by buying the concentric termination kit, which I'm glad I did.

Takes some time

Have experienced alot of cold water sandwiches and have to let it run longer than the Rheem unit I had. I had some programing issues the first week of operation that I had to call the toll free line. The customer support was great they walk you through the troubleshooting completely. For the money compared to the Rheem unit and the hassels I had with it this unit far exceeds my expectations. Definitely consult local building codes and install accordingly. Used in a 1200 sq ft apartment. Winter time groundwater is quite cold compared to some other areas of country. It will keep up but runs a little longer with frequent dips in temp.

Direct vent kit restricted air flow and made extreme noise.

I installed this with normal galvanized piping for venting and it worked perfectly! had the inspector come he told me it had to be stainless steel so I ordered the concentric kit for just under $200 moved my water heater to a outside wall and the first week it made a noise that could literally Wake the Dead when I used 3 gpm and above, if I use just one faucet one and a half gallons a minute it didn't do it but I remove the 3in intake and front cover off of it and it seems to work fine but a total waste of $200 on the direct vent kit I would definitely make sure and do your research and make sure you have enough airflow it was restricting the airflow able to intake through 3in pipe not sure why exactly but I contacted supplyhouse they are giving me a replacement for its discontined through the manufacturer. I might add the supply house support was absolutely flawless in their customer service I will definitely always be doing business with them the rest of my life.

Froze and Broke

This product is advertised as an indoor hot water heater with "freeze protection." We had it installed in our tiny house. The tiny house was winterized by blowing out all the water lines. In the spring, we turned the water back on and water gushed from the bottom of the hot water heater. It had froze broke.

I actually just replaced the old water heater, the exact same thing, it lasted about 14 years, so installation wasn't to difficult, and so far it works great

Excellent!

My new water heater is working well. It arrived quickly, in perfect condition, and was installed by a professional technician. Because it is in the basement, I insulated the water pipes to help with the "cold water sandwich." I appreciated the price (best I found,) the prompt delivery, and the kind telephone service about proof of purchase for warranty purposes. All in all....an excellent purchase in every way!

Q: Can this unit be installed in crawl space and vented through foundation wall?

Asked by Grizzly Rider 12 years ago

The crawl space would need to be able to supply enough combustion air to the heater, as outlined in the manual. If it cannot, you would need to purchase a direct-vent conversion kit (part TK-TV10) in order to set the unit up to bring in outdoor combustion air. Also make sure that your installation complies with any applicable local codes.

Q: Please clarify... If I want to convert to direct vent, which products are required? The 3" x 4" Adjustable Concentric Termination OR the Direct Vent Conversion Kit (T-KJr2-IN, T-K4-IN, T-D2-IN) OR BOTH? Thx!

The direct vent conversion kit is required. It includes parts needed to create an outdoor fresh air intake on the heater and to cover the standard indoor air intake on the front of the unit. Concentric vent terminations would only be required if you wanted to have a single penetration from the building.

You can, as long as the existing venting is compatible with the T-KJr. unit (which requires 4" Category III stainless steel venting).

Q: The rpecification calls for a 3/4 inch gas inlet. Since we heat primarily ith wood, our propane supply is a 125 gallon tank with 1/2 inch pipeing. The unit will only serve one bathroom, but the well water in the winter is not much above freezing. Will the unit work for this installation?

Ok. Here is the thing. You need to install a 3/4 pipe from the gas tank to the unit, even if the gas tanks and the unit are 1/2. The more 3/4 pipe are in between, the better the unit will work.!! Very important, otherwise the unit will shut off automatically for error 3. Make sure the unit has its pipe fumes well installed, i mean, it has to have at least 35 inches of vertical pipe and then you can use an elbow. And for the water, just make sure the pressure goes up to 20 psi at least.. With this i think you wont have any trouble.. Refards. Alex Sent from my iPhone

You might get lucky. It depends what other appliances are served by the gas line and how far the unit is from the tank. Among other factors. If you use 2.5 gpm at 80 degree rise then you will need just about the full 140,000 BTU rated input for the tk junior. Phelps Clarke ***.****

u must have power (120vac) to operate the onboard computer. if u don't have power to your house, u can rig it up with a small converter (available at auto parts or building supply store for temporary power. Donald-Wade:Hildreth

No. There is an internal blower and microprocessor that need to be powered up. You could run the unit off of a very small generator though. Power draw is very low. Mark

unless you got some kind of battery/generator backup the answer is no.

No, a Takagi water heater needs power to vent gasses out of it. If there is no power it would be dangerous to try and light it, and I don't think it would work.

The unit should fire with no problem. It sounds like the sensor might need to be cleaned.

Q: I currently have a T-Kjr (2006) installed to heat a closed radiant floor system at an elev. of 6,000 ft (near lake tahoe). The heat area is 2,100 sq ft broken into 5 zones. The current unit seems to be having to work to hard for this use. Is there an alternative that would be more effecient, cost effective, and better suited to my needs? I do have sufficent room for a floor based unit or tank type.

For heating a better choice would be a boiler over a water heater or tankless water heater. Boilers are designed for heating where water heaters/tankless water heaters are more designed for plumbing.

Q: Are there any disadvantages/limitations of using this product in a radiant space heating application as opposed to a boiler?

The only disadvantage would be efficiency. Tankless water heaters are not designed for radiant heating applications and will usually not yield maximum efficiency if used for radiant heat.
