Works great!

I've used this model for 10 years in a sump. It's worked flawlessly and reliably until recently. When it stopped working, I bought another to replace it without hesitation (only to find that the original pump just had leaves jamming the impeller and started working again fine after I cleared it). I had removed the intake screen, so the jamming was my fault. I installed the new pump since I already bought it. One feature I especially like is that the level switch is integrated, so there's only one cord to deal with (unlike the newer models).

3 strikes out - fail, fail fail.

The first Little Giant pump ( 6-CIA 1/3 HP) came with our home when we bought it. Lasted 3 years, which because we didn't know how old the original unit was, thought was pretty good. Based on that, when it failed (usually the diaphram switch seal looses pressure and the pump continues to run unless unplugged from the wall power. Second one lasted 3 months and we thought that was just an anomaly, so got a 3rd one. Failed within 8 months. I opened it up since it was unserviceable anyway, and the interior tooling was very poor. score marks where the borer tool worked, unfinished flanges (which is where we thing a small bit of cast iron/metal punctures the diaphragm. Overall, really poor QA work. We bought another brand and no problems in 6+ years. Yep, this review is a long time coming and I hope Little Giant has improved their manufactoring processes since then, but we'd never purchase pumps from them again.

Great Company

I have purchased numerous of these sumps over the years...I usually keep an extra one on hand. The impressive thing is I opened one two years after I purchased it and it did not work and supply house sent me another. Unfortunately though another one went out but not going to ask for a new one...but will continue to buy from Supply House great company that stands by their products.

The diaphragm is pressure based, you would have to submerge it in water.

no it does not

Q: Is there way to adjust the water level which triggers the pump (adjustable pressure switch). The pump is submersed in water most of the time. Also, would rather have less water sitting in pit as it impacts moisture levels in basement/running of dehumidifiers.

only with the optional piggy back float switch

Q: I don't see a float on the picture. Is this a "bladder" type or one similar to the ones in toilet tanks?
